We spent two nights in Noirieux at the end of August, while visiting the Chateaux de la Loire with the children. The hotel itself is beautiful and the service is very friendly. We stayed in rooms in the main Chateau, which were beautiful and very tastefully done, with beautiful river views.
The 'average' rating is due to the fact that, notwithstanding the beauty of the place, we did feel that the price was a bit high for what we received. The toiletries are average, the towels are tired / threadbare, as is the carpeting. We ate two suppers in the restaurant, and thought that the food was overpriced - our meals were adequate but hardly memorable, and we have eaten vastly superior and cheaper meals at Michelin two-starred restaurants. The breakfast illustrates the difficulties of many French hotels in understanding international clientele - it was very expensive, very slow, and wasteful (the children like to have eggs with a bit of bread in the morning, which are an extra, and left uneaten the baskets of croissants which are brought willy-nilly to the table).
Our advice would be to stay at Noirieux if you want a bit of Chateau life, as a treat, but have your meals elsewhere.
Room Tip: Rooms in the Chateau have a lovely view of the river, and their high ceilings give a taste of Chatea...
