“Great location, small room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2011

The best thing about this hotel is its central location, not too far from the station. We thought it might get noisy at night time, but we had nothing to fear. Our bedroom was a bit on the small side with the bed squeezed against the wall, although it was otherwise very clean and welcoming. we did have a nice view out of the window over a fountain – very pleasant and relaxing.

The reception staff were very helpful and always smiling. They give us useful advice for sightseeing.

Breakfast was a bit expensive for what it was.

We would stay here again, but just wish the room had been a bit bigger. Also a bit expensive for what the hotel is – more 3 star than 4 star

“PRETTY DISMAL BUT CONVENIENTLY LOCATED”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 October 2011

Our room was bleak, badly furnished, and in need of a total overhaul. There were chipped tiles, dirty grouting, and unhygienically exposed pipework in the bathroom, which was poorly equipped - one doesn't expect to have to provide one's own shower gel and shampoo. There should also be additional lavatory paper so that it doesn't become necessary to use face tissues.

The double glazing was a joke - so badly fitted that that it excluded virtually none of the noise from the road or railway station. The bed was ideal for someone with a bad back who had forgotten his bed board; it was so firm that it bore a remarkable similarity to the floor. However, the plastic covered mattress was preferred because of the stained and dirty carpet, even though the single and aged pillows had become so flattened that they provided virtually no support.

The air conditioning unit did work reasonably well, though it was a source of constant drips onto the floor.

Breakfast was adequate, though butter and other items were not chilled in spite of the fact that the temperature during our stay was in the high eighties. We didn't take any other meals as the menu, as is the norm in France, made no concessions to vegetarians.

The positives are due almost entirely to the location. The hotel is very handily placed for the railway station; the railway station car park is just across the road and only cost one Euro for overnight parking; and the city centre and the chateau are only a short walk away. Reception staff were friendly and helpful.

Overall, I'd say go to the Mercure, which is only a couple of hundred yards further from the railway station and doesn't cost a lot more considering the vast difference in quality. This hotel really needs to up its game.

Room Tip: Find another hotel.

“Excellent location; friendly staff; clean rooms--what more could you ask for?”

We spent four nights here--the rooms were lovely, the hotel is charming and located directly across from the train station. Everything in town is within walking distance and the tourist bureau has good information. Beautiful old, old city--good shopping, wonderful french breads, wines, regional foods, markets--bring good walking shoes and an umbrella--the weather is more coastal than you would think . . .

“Exellent friendly hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 August 2009

The Hotel is very conveniently situated near the station but not noisey. All the places of interest in Angers are well within walking distance from the Hotel. All the Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful and English speaking. Eating at the Bistro attached to the Hotel was ideal and reasonably priced but limited menu.
