One of the staff members shared with me that they are required to write their own reviews to improve the hotel rating. This hotel does not deserve the two star rating. The maid service is awful. There is no air conditioning in the rooms, and there is no sheet to cover yourself with on the bed. The plumbing is old and you can smell the sewage in the room.

We stayed overnight at the Hotel Le Saint-Pierre with our two small children (18 months and 4 years) in June 2010 and were delighted to have found this small, characterful hotel and its friendly and welcoming staff.

The hotel is a converted old holiday villa located a couple of hundred metres from the famous long curve of the promenade and sandy beach of La Baule and the staff kindly offered us buckets and spades for the children on arrival.

The family room was spacious, nicely decorated and very clean, though a curtain to screen off the children's sleeping alcove would have been useful. There is no air conditioning but the street outside is quiet, so windows can be left open.

The hotel has a lovely small public lounge area with books, internet and a selection of games and the buffet-style breakfast next morning was excellent.

I would certainly return to the Hotel Le Saint-Pierre if near La Baule and would recommend it to others looking for a charming, relaxing small hotel.

This is a really nice, good value hotel very close to the beach and a short walk to the town with many shops, cafes and restaurants nearby. About a 10-15 minute walk to the train station also, which was really convenient for us.

The bedroom wasn't massive but it was perfectly adequate for our needs. The bathroom was also small but, again, it worked well and was fine.

The room was cleaned beautifully every morning. The staff were friendly and helpful. The buffet breakfast was really delicious with lots of choice.

My only negative comment about the place is that noise carries quite a lot. Some people staying on the same floor as us came in late one night and I was woken up by the noise of the doors creaking as they were opened and closed. Then I found it very difficult to go back to sleep as I laid there listening to the man in the room next door to me snoring very loudly!

There is no lift so if you have a lot of luggage and don't want to carry it upstairs then this is not a good hotel for you, or perhaps ask for a room on the first floor or something.

I would definitely stay here again if I returned to La Baule and I would recommend it to friends but just bear in mind the lack of lift and take ear plugs!
