Recently stayed at this charming hotel which occupies a superb position in the heart of La Baule and just behind the sea front. Benoit Malguid and his family, who I understand have owned this hotel for some 50 years now could not have been more helpful and provided us with lots of interesting information about this delightful seaside resort and the surrounding area. They typified all that is good about the traditional French Hoteliers and were a welcome change from the increasingly impersonal "chain" hotels. We would have no hesitation in staying at The Hotel Concorde when we next visit La Baule and would recommend it very highly.
The Town with its late 19th Century architecture was most interesting and the adjacent historic Towns of Batz Sur Mer and La Croisic were well worth a visit.
All was not perfect however. A visit to the the La Rotonde Restaurant at the neaby very expensive 5* Royal Thalasso Barriere Hotel for an evening meal was less than impressive. After an excellent welcome from a senior waitor who was both humerous and very attentive, but who we never saw again, presumably as he had finished his day, the evening deteriorated with poorly served cold food, an anonymous sommelier and finally mysterious "additional " courses that were added to our bill!
Maybe a training course by Benoit would help to improve their standards!, although these comments were of course the result of just one very dissappointing meal and may not be typical
To conclude, we loved La Baule, and for location, quality of service, pleasant rooms (many with sea views) and good value, The Concorde has it all.
