“Average”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2009

I stayed at this hotel in Sep 09 (granted only for 1 night) with my sister. The hotel is in need of a major refurbishment- the decor looks shabby and does not fit a hotel of this star rating. The room was adequate, but again perhaps not what we were really expecting from a Barriere property. We used the indoor pool, sauna etc which were fine, but the edges of the pool were mouldy and it just looked like it needed either a good clean or a lick of paint. We knew what to expect from La Baule and you kind of get the feeling that the town has maybe lost some of its charm and past glamour. However we walked the full extent of the beach in the evening which we really enjoyed. We would not return to this hotel.

“Very relaxing”

Very stylish hotel on the beachfront, with great pool, saunas and steamroom included in the room price. The restaurant , bars and breakfasts were rather pricy, but as it was off-season most of La Baule was closed, so it took some exploring to find alternatives. Various massages and health treatments were available, but also rather expensive (25 min massage for 58 euro). We do not usually splash out on 4 star hotels, so maybe others won't be so shocked at the price of 'extras'

The room was very clean, quiet and with an enormous double bed and lovely bathroom (esp the big deep bath). Many guests were wandering around in the complimentary dressing gowns and slippers from one treatment to another and the atmosphere was relaxing, though the staff could be a little stuffy whilst still being helpful (hey, it's a 4 star hotel in France!).

  • Liked — big big bed
  • Disliked — bar and restaurants were rather expensive

“Really Liked this Hotel”

We stayed here in June 2006 for three nights and really enjoyed it. I was very surprised to read the previous review. We had a really nice big room in lovely condition. Yes this is a traditional style hotel but that can be nice. I did find the reception staff a bit curt but we had little interaction with them. The weather was mixed so the indoor leisure facilities were great. We went to reception to enquire about the room rate but actually booked on line through tripadvisor at a much cheaper rate. The hotel owns a restaurant across the road on the beach which is really nice. I would go back to this hotel.

“over rated over priced”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2006

Rather stuffy and traditional style - and unbearable clientele - with both dogs and crying children in the bar.
Rooms tired and not deluxe - the television perched on the minibar fridge - a decorative touch not used in so many '4' stars (4 is the highest rating) It was rather charmless
The pool/fitness facility were ok - but not good enough to make this a destination in itself - cant comment on the thalasso therapy -but it didnt appeal.
The usual buffet fare for breakfast - but nothing outstanding.
If your idea of a chic seaside spa resort is one where the burbery clad grands dames clutch their co-ordinated pooches then this is for you - otherwise give it a miss
La Baule must have been gorgeous before the beach was walled in with the most horrendous blocks of flats. A few blocks back from the seafront and youre in a world of fantasy mansions - but the development here has ruined a fabulous beach.
