“Fifth Time Staying Here”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 July 2011

We love this hotel - right opposite the fab beach in a little oasis of garden. Pretty Edwardian gothic-style house, converted into extremely comfortable hotel. Staff are friendly and welcoming, food/wine fabulous, bedrooms large and attractive, bathrooms although a bit dated now are large, clean and functional. Public rooms grand! Book the gourmand package which includes all food and drinks which is best value. No need to upgrade room as standard rooms are perfectly adequate, although do not have sea views. Several very young children were dining with parents during our 3-night stay, which was a bit irritating as they were too young to appreciate the food and did not behave v.well, but good to know the hotel encourages families. Bikes for use of guests, loungers etc., in garden and secure private car park. Guests can use facilities of sister hotels and sports centres which include spas, pools, golf, tennis etc.

Room Tip: Rear rooms can be noisy as close to road - revellers at night and deliveries early morning

“LUXURY WITHOUT SLEEP”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 July 2011

We stayed five nights. The hotel is nicely situated at the better end of town. We paid extra for half board 180 euro for two, which worked out cheaper. The staff are superb, but the hotel, while having a luxury feel is rather old fashioned and the rooms slightly small. the food was good but not wonderful, and the wine list quite scary starting from 40 euro and rising fast with only French wine..The hotel open air carpark costs 14 euro day which is a bit pricey, but with meters everywhere on the street its a no option if you have a car. The hotel provides free bicycles which is great as the town s very cycle friendly. We had a bacony terrace but it had no privacy, and the couple next door used to smoke incessantly on theirs and they could look into our room. The weather was only about 22 degrees but the rooms are not air conditioned. It was too hot to sleep without the terrace doors open and so noisy with them open. Traffic and revellers on the front woke us constantly every night. The hotel has no pool and limited facilities. There were no flowers in our room or the dining room, and it did not live up o the standards we expect from relais chateau group. Our bill came to over £500 a night and was not worth it.

Dear guest,

Thank you for your comments on Tripadvisor after you have been staying at the Relais & Châteaux Castel Marie-Louise.

I am delighted to hear that our front-office staff is as friendly as he tries to be, I will not fail to share with them.
I am really sorry if you could not enjoy the terrace because of unpleasant next door people. We will study how more privacy could be provided to our guests.
If I may tell you, we have on our wine-list some affordable references about 25 €, and around twenty of the best wines of the world (eg from South Africa, Hungary, Chile, New Zealand, Italy, ...).
Even if we can’t offer our own pool, we always give a passcard with access to all facilities of our resort: swimming-pool, sailing, spa, tennis, golf…
I hope you will continue to be confident in our establishment, and we look forward to see you many times in the future.
A bientôt

“Lovely hotel in a great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 May 2011

I stayed at the Castel Marie-Louise recently for a business trip. I stayed in a sea view room on the second floor which had a great view down the gardens to the beach and sea. The hotel is located a 2 minute walk from the beach which was quite spectacular.

My room was comfortable and only let down by the slightly dated bathroom and shower which cleaned me and the entire bathroom floor at the same time. Bed was comfortable, all necessary toileterries were provided, suit hanger, mini-bar, safe, good wardrobe space and flat-screen tv.

Reception were very polite and helpful, allowing me to use a hotel PC to check emails. I paid a pre-arranged reduced rate for the room which was good value, however the hotel seems quite expensive according to its tariff. Not sure I would pay full price.

Overall I would recommend this hotel as a place to stay in the gorgeous La Baule if the price is right!

Room Tip: Sea view is a must

“Romantic hotel, attractive rooms, sparce service”

Lovely, romantic hotel with very attractive rooms but too lightly staffed to rate 5 stars.
What do you have to do to get a drink around here?

“Have a nice walk on the beach..”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2009

We were there for 4 days in the end of October. Even though we couldn't swim in the sea just in front of the hotel, we got a free entrance to the thalasso center 3 minutes away.

The suite we stayed was a good size. We had a private terrace as well. But the bathroom was a bit dated and need a renovation. For theh otel of this class, I think ts too shabby.

Breakfast was good and dinner was ok. I wasn't very happy with one of the old man working in the restaurant though. He was a bit rude. But otherwise the service was good. The people at the reception desk were very helpful.

The hotel is charming but probably we will stay at the thalasso hotel next time because it is more convenent for us to play with kids when the swiming pool is in the same building.
But if you are a couple, this is a nicer place to stay.
