“Lovely hotel near the beach”

Stayed at the Castel Marie-Louise for 4 days in September 2007. The hotel is very classy and our room was gorgeous. We had food in the hotel on the first night, the staff were very attentive, we only ordered a main course and they gave us two extra sampling courses – the food was lovely but it is very pricey! The hotel has a nice location just across the road from the beach but about a 15minute walk into the main street of La Baule with the shops and restaurants (would recommend La Villa in the town centre). We also used the Thalassotherapy Centre at the nearly hotel which was very relaxing.

spent a week here in July. This was a very comfortable hotel with an exceedingly helpful staff. An expensive venue if you were to eat in, but we did treat ourselves to dinner there on the last night and it was truly magnificent on a par with Andrew Fairlie at Gleneagles. In fact, it was so special that to eat like that for 7 nights would be impossible if you usually eat healthy, simply prepared options. Only two quibbles - mineral water each evening with the turn down service would be nice and charging 13 euros per day for parking in the hotel car park, but not telling you in advance is a bit cheeky.

“Lovely place to stay”

We stayed here for one night but wished we had longer. Located just across the street from the sea it was a lovely location. The staff were friendly and helpful, and we had a free treatment at their thalassotherapy centre next door. The rooms were beautifully decorated and the bathroom was ample in size and a pleasure to use. The breakfast in the restaurant was well worth getting up for with a huge variety of things to choose from, including cheeses, meats, oysters and pastries. Surely the best place to stay in La baule. For dinner, try La Villa in town.

“A gem on the beach in La Baule”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 September 2005

We stayed here in mid September on a weekend in order to attend a wedding. Staff were very professional and truly kind, hotel is lovely and beautifully kept. Our least expensive room in the house ( US$300 plus) was on the top floor with a nice view of the pine trees on one side and vacation homes at the rear. It was quiet, nicely furnished, with a well appointed bathroom - new rain type shower etc. When we arrived they had a room air conditioner on wheels that we asked to be removed, as it wasn't that warm and took up space. (Obviously hotel doesn't have central air) My husband thought the bed was a bit soft. The room wasn't huge, but there was excellent storage. We could occasionally hear folks in the ajoining room, as there was a connecting door.
The one star Michelin restaurant is excellent, though pretty pricy. When we saw that the appetizers were 30 euros, we quickly decided to just order wine with appetizers and desserts. Nobody batted an eye over that choice - and they gave us at least two extra course samplings. The grounds and location are really pretty and the feeling of the whole place is very intimate. The beach is across the street and the fun Saturday market is a nice walk into town.
