“First class experience.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

Three of us stayed for a night in one of the triple rooms. Plenty of space, nice bathroom and comfortable beds. We were going to arrive after the 8pm closure, but we rang the hotel and were given a code of entry, and had no problems at all. Nice breakfast with friendly staff and a lovely old bulding. Be aware that parking is on street or multi storey and chargeable.
We loved it and would certainly stay again.
For other reviewers - please remember this is a two star hotel, and maybe your expectations are too high? No lift, but the facilities are fine.

“Welcoming, well situated, quiet area”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2011

We enjoyed our stay at the Morand. It is only a 5 min. walk from the station, situated in a quiet area and only minutes away from everything you want to see in Rouen.
It is indeed an old building without elevator, but the room and bathroom with separate toilet were nice nevertheless and the bedding good.
One small negative point: During the night noisy room neighbours in hall and nobody at reception to intervene.
Staff was welcoming and helpful.
Wi-fi in the room.

“Good things and some Bad things too...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2011

We love Normandy (well France really) and just going somewhere to chill out, maybe some exploring, maybe just sitting in a cafe. Rouen does not have a whole lot going on, but it is lovely.

The hotel...we have stayed in quite a few budget hotels in France (& elsewhere) but we like to stay somewhere that's not totally budget but economical. This hotel is budget, and I am not sure it's totally worth the overall cost.

The building is lovely, the rooms are completely what other reviewers say - pretty much cardboard. If you don't know the person you are sharing with very well, you will after this stay. The toilets/bathrooms are pretty much segregated by cardboard walls. And you really can hear EVERYTHING happening in the next room....I didn't really understand why, as the hotel was by no means full but they seemed to put visitors in rooms next to each other. I think the triple rooms are separate though.

We did look at two rooms (we got a choice because they didn't have our booking in the book) and one was meant to be superior and one was meant to be standard, I still don't know which was which! I am not even sure there is a difference in the hotel but were told this to appease us.

The receptionist when we arrived was not very helpful and seemed a bit annoyed by us asking her any questions. Thomas who was there a day later was the other end of the scale and could not do enough to help.

Breakfast...is nothing special, you can get a nice breakfast in the town for slightly less. 7 euros per person per day...however it's a lot harder, typical French style, to find anything on a Sunday (I recommend the market), Monday is a bit easier.

Parking...is no longer 7 euros per day, it is 12 euros.

So with 49 euros for a room per night, 14 euros for breakfast and then another 12 euros for parking (assuming you are doing all of this) it may work out cheaper to go elsewhere.

It is quaint, and I did kind of like it in a funny kind of way but I wouldn't stay there again. Up to you though - if you are like me you probably want to experience it for yourself!

“Not bad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 August 2011

Stayed here for one night alone and chose it (booking.com) as it looked very olde worlde and had a good price. The location isn't bad at all, it's only about 5 minutes walk at most to the Rue Gros Horlage and there is a massive underground car park very close if you can't get a place on the street. The welcome at the hotel was good and though it was spotlessly clean, it did feel in need of a bit of 'upgrading' in some places. Nothing major just a bit of paint, some new bed linen and a tidy up. I got offered a bigger room for the same price by the very friendly English speaking lady on the front desk which was good except it was on the third floor. There is no lift and the spiral staircase though beautiful is not the easiest thing to navigate, especially with cases. If you struggle, make sure you ask for a room on the first floor. The room itself was big with a reasonable bathroom (which to be fair, definitely needed an upgrade though it was very clean) there was good wifi in the whole place. The double bed was actually two singles pushed together and I found myself in a crevasse in the morning! Breakfast was usual continental fare (I was charged extra even though I had actually booked to have it included) with breads, a croissant and yoghurt. If I stayed again, I'd not bother with the breakfast and go instead to a patisserie.
On the whole friendly service, nice that they speak English and are happy to do so but the hotel itself needs a bit of a lift.

“A joke”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 August 2011

This hotel feels like a carton box - you can hear every creak all around you, you can even hear the water running through the plumbing when the other guests wash. And the horrible beds don'help you sleep, either. Plus, it doesn't have an elevator, so you'd better not take along much luggage. On the bright side, it's well located, the breakfast is generous by French standards and the staff are friendly

Dear Sir,
I apologize that you have this feeling concerning my hotel.
Let me just notice to you that it's a new ownership (1st june 2011) and i make all i can to improve hotel's facilities.
I don't understand your remark concerning the beds as i just have changed in july 7 complete beds on the seventeen of the hotel.Of course , the others are ok.
Concerning the noisy side , our hotel is a 17th century building, moreover you have to take in consideration that you have stayed in a 2 stars hotel very cheap ( 50€ per night downtown) . your review looks like a 4 stars hotel review.(250€ per night).
All my reviews satisfaction pourcents shows that your review is quite hard.
At least , if i would be able to see you again in my hotel , i will do my best to offer you the best possible stay in my hotel category.
Sincerely
The Owner
