We love Normandy (well France really) and just going somewhere to chill out, maybe some exploring, maybe just sitting in a cafe. Rouen does not have a whole lot going on, but it is lovely.
The hotel...we have stayed in quite a few budget hotels in France (& elsewhere) but we like to stay somewhere that's not totally budget but economical. This hotel is budget, and I am not sure it's totally worth the overall cost.
The building is lovely, the rooms are completely what other reviewers say - pretty much cardboard. If you don't know the person you are sharing with very well, you will after this stay. The toilets/bathrooms are pretty much segregated by cardboard walls. And you really can hear EVERYTHING happening in the next room....I didn't really understand why, as the hotel was by no means full but they seemed to put visitors in rooms next to each other. I think the triple rooms are separate though.
We did look at two rooms (we got a choice because they didn't have our booking in the book) and one was meant to be superior and one was meant to be standard, I still don't know which was which! I am not even sure there is a difference in the hotel but were told this to appease us.
The receptionist when we arrived was not very helpful and seemed a bit annoyed by us asking her any questions. Thomas who was there a day later was the other end of the scale and could not do enough to help.
Breakfast...is nothing special, you can get a nice breakfast in the town for slightly less. 7 euros per person per day...however it's a lot harder, typical French style, to find anything on a Sunday (I recommend the market), Monday is a bit easier.
Parking...is no longer 7 euros per day, it is 12 euros.
So with 49 euros for a room per night, 14 euros for breakfast and then another 12 euros for parking (assuming you are doing all of this) it may work out cheaper to go elsewhere.
It is quaint, and I did kind of like it in a funny kind of way but I wouldn't stay there again. Up to you though - if you are like me you probably want to experience it for yourself!
