“Short break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

Thoroughly enjoyable stay. We booked a double room, which was provided, but this was facing the rear of the hotel. Although no double rooms were available at the front of the hotel due to ongoing installation of air conditioning work in half of the hotel bedrooms, we were able to move to a twin bedded room instead. The room was very comfortable with very little disturbance from the building work. The staff were friendly and helpful. An excellent buffet breakfast was provided and the hotel is in a superb location, only a two minute walk from the centre of the town. There is private parking available immediately behind the hotel which is cheaper than the on-street meters outside the front doors.

“Nice hotel, great location, average value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 December 2011

This hotel sports typical Mercure cleanliness, and minimalist efficiency. The location is great - easy walk to historic town center and harbor. The secure parking in back (add about fifteen dollars per day) is a plus for drivers as street parking nearby can be scarce. Our room was on the back which meant a view only of the parking area, but there was no street noise and we slept well. We skipped the breakfast which seemed a poor value and went to the bakery two doors down and bought fresh breads instead. There are also small markets within 1-2 blocks of hotel. The city tourist information office is also close by.

Room Tip: Rooms on the back offer little view, but they are quiet.

“Oustanding location .....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 December 2011

Located within a very minutes of the historical centre of Honfleur this hotel
is ideally placed in a very convenient part of the town. Many good restaurants are very
close by, and easily accessible on foot. The hotel car park is immediately
behind the building, behind secure intercom controlled gates, for 7 euros a day.
There is public parking almost opposite at 12 euros per day so you can leave
your car behind completely and go everywhere on foot. The hotel is easily reached in ten
minutes from the nearby motorway.

Our room was facing the car park at the rear of the hotel and was very quiet
but with no view. Rooms in front have a view but I could not say if the
(usually very light) traffic was disturbing.

Reception is bright and cheerful, with helpful staff who speak clear French or English
if you wish. There is a bar nearby which we did not use and there is a simple breakfast-only restaurant, but there is no food available in the evening. After a long journey we found this a little irritating initially, but soon found one of the many excellent restaurants literally five minutes walk from the hotel front door so it didn't matter.

For a simple menu and wine list La Fontaine was very pleasant and equally close nearby L'Absinthe was in a different league, with wonderful service and first rate cuisine.

Breakfast was served in the hotel, typically good French continental cold fare of bakery, and dairy produce, cereals and fruit, with some warm scrambled eggs and bacon if desired.

The carpeted rooms are clean and comfortable with good decor although the bed was very hard and the walls rather thin, so noise from other rooms was occasionally apparent. There were minor problems only, our request for an extra pillow was ignored. Clothing storage is inadequate for two people and the bath towels too small. It might be better not to bother with the fridge and have more clothes space. A few toiletries are provided and replaced each day. The room has an electric heater and free wifi, the window opens but I cannot speak for any air con. The bathroom was clean and satisfactory with plenty of hot water.

The hotel was good value for money and we would return again.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are very quiet.

A great hotel for a short break in Honfleur - out of the main town but in easy walking distance of the central dock basin and restaurants.
Very useful secured car park
Room recently refurbished and offer all the basics - good breakfast too.
