We were staying in a beautiful guest house in Honfleur called La Petit Folie. The owner Penny reccomended L`Endroit highly so on our last night we decided to give it a whirl. Location wise its not that difficult to find being on a street just behind the tourist office although in Honfleur terms its pretty hidden.
When we arrived we were a little bit concerned as there was only one other table occupied. Our reservations soon dissappeared though when we tasted the appetizer, a homemade pate. We had elected to go for the a`la carte main, cheese and then a dessert.
My wife had ordered a spicy slow cooked Morroccan lamb which was amazing. I had gone for a Black Boar chop with wild mushrooms. It was bursting with great flavours and was utterly delicious. The cheese course followed and was excellent with very generous amounts of local Normandy cheese to savour. We had just enough room for dessert (The portions are very generous). My wife elected for a home made maccaroon which was excellent but not a patch on the AMAZING chcoclate, toffee and peanut tart I opted for. Quite simply wow!
On top of all this, we had the pleasure of the chefs advice in picking a wine that would suit our meal and though not normally a massive fan of vin blanc, he was spot on. It was a great accompanyment to the meal.
All in all, and having eaten at a number of michelin starred restaurants and Rick Steins place in Padstow, the food here was of a standard that few have matched. The food is not artistic but it is bursting with flavour, well priced and likely to make you want to go back time and again. We certainly will when we next go to Honfleur.
