“I think we were in a different hotel!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 October 2011

It seems we had a very different experience to all the other reviewers on here.
We did have a pleasant welcome when we initally arrived at the hotel, the lady on reception directed us to the court year car park etc. But as my husband came back in to take our bags to our room he was 'collared' by an Emglish lady on reception. When booking initially through Lastminute there was a server error their end as we placed the booking so we weren't sure if it went through or not. We contacted Lastminute and they couldn't see any booking from their end. We then booked again with hotels.com. The lady was very annoyed at the hotel as she thought we had booked two rooms for that evening. ( I am not sure why anyone would book two rooms under the same name through two different booking agents, but anyway) She was really quite rude about it and blamed my husband.
She then said she would look into the matter.
After that we both really felt on edge and really not welcome. I asked for a reccomendation for dinner and was bluntly told about a restaurant at the end of some road or another. When I said I hope I remember where that is and what it's called she just repeated it again - maybe a map or a card for the restaurant might have been nice?

The room was nice and clean, very modern, but on the small side. It also had a matting syle carpet which made the room smell quite odd - of sacs - which was quite off putting in the night.

Overall it was fine. But to be honest I was more disapointed with Trouville overall. It is so, so touristy and run down. We couldn't find any kind of bar to have a drink in at all!!! A very strange place!! The next day we went along the cost by 30 mins and found Honfleur - what a beautiful town. I nearly cried when I thought we'd spent a day and night in the grim Trouville when this gem was only down the road. Never mind - next time...!

“BEAUTIFUL HOTEL...WONDERFUL STAFF!”

We stayed at Le Fer a Cheval for four nights in the middle of August and can assure you that this hotel is a gem!

The rooms are stylish, the staff are warm and friendly, and the service is outstanding. The hotel is also perfectly positioned in the centre of Trouville, with some great pâtisseries and restaurants nearby, and the beach just a couple of minutes walk away.

We stayed in a triple room on the top floor - it was roomy, the beds were extremely comfortable and the brand new bathroom was HUGE! Plenty of room for two adults and a child.

A couple of minor points to note - the rooms are very warm in peak season (although we were offered the use of a fan) and there are no coffee/tea-making facilities in the room...but with all the wonderful bars and restaurants nearby, who needs them?!

A special thank you to Fran, the Assistant Manager at the hotel. Fran was born in Britain but has lived in the area for 20 years - she is a font of all knowledge and will help you to make the most of your time in the area. Neighbouring Deauville is a must-see, as it Honfleur - less than half an hour away, by bus.

All in all, we had a fabulous trip and will definitely return!

“Loved it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 August 2011

Writing this review a bit late, but I'm having vivid flashbacks of a wonderful few days in Normandy, specifically in Trouville sur Mer and I long to return. The Hotel Le Fer a Cheval is a very charming property located in close proximity to fine restaurants, the beach, beautiful Norman mansions, the Casino, grocery. Wi-fi was available in the lobby. As I recall, I booked a standard room, which is fine as I don't usually spend a great deal of time in the room. I was really impressed with the decor. Simple, clean, and appealing to the eye, and I think the tariffs are an exceptional value for the charms and convenience of Normandy.

I've recommended the property to friends (who also have rave reviews) and I look forward to a future stay!

“Very nice but smallest room ever !!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 June 2011

A really nice family hotel, tastefully decorated and furnished and with really warm and friendly staff. Based on the standard of the decor and furnishing it would justify more than it's 2 star rating, but it is really dragged down by 2 things -- the room size and the noise !!

Our room (room 209) must be the smallest double hotel room ever, with just about enough room on either side of the double bed to squeeze along to get into it, not enough room to open the door of the wardrobe in the room without hitting the bed, not enough room in the bath-room to dry yourself after a bath or shower and barely enough room in the toilet to sit on the loo without your knees banging on the wall opposite.

It is also incredibly noisy in the sense that every step on the old wodden floors from those in other rooms and using the stairs resounds around the building, which led to a very restless night's sleep.

First we thank you for your comments. The hotel used to be 3 old buildings wich have been joined, that's why rooms have different size. For your information, you had booked a standard room. We also propose superior rooms wich are bigger.
Regarding stairs, we are renovating this part of the hotel and are waiting for the carpet wich will be put on the stairs to reduce noise.

“Hidden gem”

Booked as package with Brittany Ferries so didn't quite know what to expect, lovely surprise. A very welcoming, warm comfortable hotel. All rooms have been modernised and probably due to the very reasonable rate we got for the whole trip we did have one of smaller rooms but it was lovely; beautifully decorated and very clean. The breakfasts were lovely with large selection to choose from. The situation of this hotel is also a huge bonus just few yards from the sea front and within walking distance of many restaurants. Parking was no problem this time of year but expect in the height of the season would be a bit difficult. This area is lovely and one can travle to other areas very easliy.
