“Overnight stay - no problems - it will do”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 September 2010

Booked this after reading TripA reviews and looking for an hotel on the outskirts of Honfleur, staying overnight on a trip to the west coast.

Arrived approx 22.30 after eating in Honfleur and the welcome was very good, pleasant and efficient considering the late(ish) hour. Rooms (our room anyway) somewhat dated now compared with Novotel etc - best place to inspect the old plumbing is from the loo seat (!) or bath - and an upgrade would not go amiss in the near future. But clean enough but slightly drab '80s colours and 'brown' corridors I thought.

Slept well - room was advertised with mini-bar and internet access. Empty mini-bar (perhaps understandable for prepaid one night stand) and the internet access bit in the spiel subtly missed out the word 'free'! Not worth several Euros for an hour just to check the emails when we had only left Blighty a few hours before. These days, wireless or a cable should be f.o.c. in all the rooms?

We declined the steepish breakfast mentioned by some and whinged that all we wanted was a coffee and croissant and hey presto were obligingly offered the 'bar breakfast' at £6.00 each - coffee, croisant, jams and orange juice. Just the job!

Very pleasant service at check-out by (the manageress I think) Emily of Franco / Yorkshire descent - perfect English to assist our Franglais - and we drove away refreshed and happy feeling we had received good service and value for money.

Would stay again if passing - and would appreciate a lighter, brighter refurb of the room and corridors when it happens as I'm sure it must. 8/10 from us.

“Handy for visiting "Normandy 1944"”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 July 2010

Pleasant hotel which I would have rated higher had it the comfort of airconditioning. The rather small but well-appointed rooms quickly get too hot in sunny Summer weather and sleeping with open windows is difficult because of the very noisy road traffic close to the hotel. I totally disagree with the comment that the breakfast is unsatisfactory. Quite to the contrary, it is one of the best features of the hotel. I also found the reception staff very helpful and the young waitresses are very keen to please the guests. Its location very close to the motorway makes it a good location for visiting the many places famous for the 1944 invasion of the Allied forces. I would definitely return but not in the heat of the Summer. For that reason, I would also avoid a room in the attic ("mansarde").

“Large rooms, hearty breakfast -- but a little far from city center”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2005

I stayed here for three nights over the Christmas holiday, as it was one of the few hotels open in this small Normandy town. It's not in the city center so to get to the hotel from the SNCF gare you will need to take a taxi (about 10 EUR). To get back into the city center to catch the connecting Bus Verts or trains to other parts of the Calvados region or to just even visit the centre ville, you can take a city bus (Lexobus, the local bus service provider) from a bus stop about three minutes walk from the hotel.

The hotel rooms are extremely large and I was given a non-smoking room with a very comfortable king size bed. There was a sofa in the room and a brightly lit writing desk, together with a full-size color television. Amenities were sparse, but the large bathtub was a treat.

Breakfasts were buffet style, cold cheeses and cold cuts, scrambled eggs, bacon and sausage, croissants (two types), boiled eggs, cereals, various breads and jams. Beverages included grapefruit and orange juice, coffee, milk, various teas and coffees. Very complete and a great way to start off the day.

Within walking distance, there is a Chinese restaurant offering take-out and a Mc Donald's. Beyond the McDonald's (maybe six minutes walk from the hotel) is a humongous LeClerc supermarket and just beyond that a sporting goods store.

This hotel is strongly recommended for those traveling by car or those without a lot of luggage who will be able to get to the hotel using the city bus. The cost of the taxi to this hotel may negate any savings you are able to get by choosing it over the more centrally located Best Western hotels.
