As far as things go in Deauville, Helios seems to be on the cheaper end, but with summer price hikes is still not so cheap (almost 80euros a night for a double). The location is really good - 10 min walk from the train station, just off the main shopping street towards the beach. Hotel staff were definitely a plus, let us leave bags and use the internet in the lobby much later in the day when we came back. Rooms are plain but clean and fine, only wish would have been a mini-fridge to keep stuff cool. Has a little puddle of a pool in the courtyard if you're too much of a patsy to swim in the channel :-) On the whole if you've come to this place like we did to check it out but not spend much Trouville on the other side of the river is a better bet. Plus it feels more like a real town anyhow. AMERICANS: the main nightlife in both Deauville and Trouville are the casinos. You need to show an ID. EU state id cards count, US drivers' licenses DO NOT - ONLY PASSPORTS. So if you've left your passport at home in Paris, you (like I was) will be s.o.l.
