Having arrived late in the town on a delayed train and found no hotels, i asked a young couple where the decent, inexpensive hotels were located. They guided me to the Beausejour, and did me a very good turn. To judge from the negative reviews, the hotel must have been updated since those were posted. My room ( a double) was small but simply spotless and delighful. The paint on the woodwork and textured wallpaper was bright and fresh, the ensuite gleaming. At just 39Euros (I didn't order breakfast) it was 13E cheaper than the Premiere Classe at Bayeux where I'd stayed the night before. The carpet on the stairs was a little worn and the lower part of the walls bore the scuff marks of many suitcases (No lift!) but as i wasn't sleeping on the landing that was no hardship.
I gather the hotel has its own parking, which may appeal to ferry travellers with a car. Reception was friendly - the manager's small daughter held the door for me. Defintely a hotel worth knowning about.

We stayed here on the strength of Trip advisor reviews before catching ferry back to UK. Really was not good at all. Rooms were small and the walls paper thin so you could hear everything in the next room and above. Shower and bathroom needed updating as did the decor I thought. Street quite noisy, hard to park close to hotel. Would not stay again.

lets get the usual stuff out of the way, it was'nt the dorchester but it was indeed clean, warm and in a good position.
the pleasant young lady on reception on saturday was a joy.
However lets cut to the chase on sat eve i had the misfortune to have had my wallet and passport lifted from my room by some really pleasant person.
i didnt discover the crime till i was heading for the boat early on sunday morning.
Now i hear you all cry what a daft thing to do leaving such stuff in your hotel room contrary to all the advice any one has ever given, but i'm not the first and will not be the last!
However when in a strange land you look for a bit basic assistance from the hotelier but what do you get ?
total dis interest in your plight! a shrug of the shoulders saying whats it got to do with him! when asked the for the Tel no for the police to report Loss of passport you get more shrugs and a "why" and "whats it to do with me" 10 mins later he did give the no and asked me to make the call outside!!
now look i,m a big boy and can deal with my own mistakes but i had paid to be his guest and a little basic customer care would have gone a long way.
My son and myself were left with the distinct impression that he then could'nt get rid of us quick enough!!
So Beware of this character if you need a little bit of assistance!!

Very, very helpful staff. Not english spoken all time , but most of the time and it only added a personal touch because the staff really tried to help out. Rooms small but nice, small shower for a big person. A hairdryer would have been nice. Mind you, I never asked the staff, they might have had a solution. The room was quiet, but that might depend of the time of the year. Both rooms and hotel were personal and if I go back to Cherbourg that´s the hotel I´ll book. I have stayed one night in another hotel in Cherbourg, more spacious in every way, but that is not the one I would like to return to.
