It wasn't the hotel's fault that I arrived in rotten form, having missed the only ferry to Ireland for the next three days... Despite all of its faults and my own bad humour, I actually liked this hotel. My room on the top floor had great views of the harbour, and was quiet. That said, I was probably lucky that the neighbours were quiet, as I suspect that the insulation was hopeless. The carpet in my room was about the most uncomfortable I've ever walked on (that goes for the stairwell too - only the reception and restaurant area are in reasonable decorative order). The wall between the window and the rear of the room had a thick, dark layer of dust! On the positive side, the breakfast buffet was excellent - including healthy and even organic options, and good coffee. Overall, I liked this hotel, because it was in such a nice spot, and it suited me for this involuntary stay in Cherbourg. I found the staff friendly and helpful. The receptionist didn't seem surprised, either, when I mentioned at check-out that for the price of the room in a three-star hotel, the breakfast really should have been included. I paid € 105 per night plus € 14 for each breakfast - far too much for a hotel which has probably not been decorated since 1985... (the rooms, that is). Cherbourg overall struck me as expensive, which might help explain the price, but still, the management could at least invest a little in the decor.

Very much in need of refurbishment. Reception staff were friendly, but restaurant staff very indifferent. Quite often use Mercure, but wouldn't stay here again unless it had received a make over. A disappointment as the position is excellent.

Good food, convenient for cross channel ferry and comfortable. The room furniture in our room was a bit battered and worn but that apart, this is a good hotel to use for an overnight stay.

We stayed here for one night before ferry journey. We found to the hotel to be a little shabby around the edges but that was more than made up for by the stunning views of the harbour and marina from the front bedrooms and the restaurant. We enjoyed a delicious meal in the restaurant and the staff were very friendly throughout. If you can look past the dated decor this is a very pleasant hotel.
