“Well positioned, clean and comfortable!”

We stayed here for one night before catching early morning ferry. Hotel is well positioned for the centre of town and the staff friendly and most helpful. Beware if using the underground car parking opposite if you want an early start the next day as the entrances are all locked! We had a few panicky moments thinking we couldnt retrieve our car before realising that you can call an attendant via an intercom phone who will let you in remotely!
Big plus for this hotel is that it provides tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms which is almost unheard of in France.

“Kyriad - perfect choice for us”

OK - here we go. I have never written a review on TripAdvisor before but felt compelled to do so this time since I found the Kyriad Hotel Caen Center on this site.

The hotel is located in a wonderful location. You can walk to several of the tourist spots in town as well as restaurants and shopping.

The hotel was clean and comfortable and provide free internet. Some of the carpets in the stairways and hallways were a bit worn but clean. The room was very comfortable and the bed provided a very pleasing night sleep. It was on the front of the hotel overlooking the park across the street. The view was nice but if you are going to be the type to go to bed early and need a quiet room then this might not be the room for you. I could hear people talking and laughing outside and there was also a bit of street traffic noise. If you need a quiet night of sleep then ask for a room on the back side of the hotel.

The bathroom is quite austere. Don't expect anything more than what you need. The number of towels for the number of people in the room, a soap dispenser on the wall located conveniently between the sink and the tub/shower - no bar soap. If that would bother you, either bring your own bar soap or go to a local market and buy a bar of soap. I personally found it to be quite efficient.

For a small charge, the hotel offers a breakfast buffet of your typical European breakfast items - breads, yogurts, cereals, fresh fruit, juice, coffee and hot tea. Don't expect to get ice. If you are a first time American traveler going to Europe you typically will not get ice in cold drinks. The drinks will be served cold but not with a glass full of ice.

The couple that run the hotel are very nice and accommodating. David was very helpful and assisting us in finding a tour guide for a private tour of the D-Day beaches and area.

Overall this was a very comfortable place to stay. A very typical European hotel with a very friendly staff.

Room Tip: Rooms on the front of the hotel could be noisy due to street noise, Ask for a room on the back side...

“Really nice hotel, great staff”

We stayed three nights at the Kyriad in Caen. It's quite centrally located, the room was small but very nicely set up and comfortable. The staff were very helpful and concerned about our comfort. Good to moderate English. Great cafe (Le Royal) right next door. Underground parking across the street, €20/day, but the hotel gives you a voucher for unlimited time @ €7. A bit more expensive than some guesthouses we looked at. Didn't try their continental breakfast (€9) because we preferred le Cafe Le Royal.

Only drawback - it's right across from a park and there were groups of noisy drunk young people yelling until the wee hours - one night we had to ask the concierge to call the gendarmes.

“Comfortable, Great location, but watch the temperatures”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2011

We stayed at this hotel in October for two nights. It had been booked on the road and we were pleased with the hotel in general. It is very hard to find since Caen is full of one-way streets and this borders a pedestrian zone as well. At least there are road signs that direct you to the hotel once you are within a block or two.

Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, provided local maps, recommended alternative restaurants for dinner and even provided discount tickets for the Peace Museum. The room was good size and clean. There were many restaurants within walking distance, so you could park the car in the underground parking lot directly across the street from the hotel and walk to dinner and some of the sights around town. The Peace Museum requires bus or car transport, however.

The breakfast was extra, but more than adequate with cereal, yogurt, breads, fruit, juice, coffee and tea.

The major downside was the climate control. The outside temperatures were in the 70s and 80s Fahrenheit and the room faced the street and the afternoon sun. It was hot. Since it was after the first Monday in October, the Air conditioning had been turned off and the heat was on. Hence, the only air circulation we could get in the room was hot. Having the windows open helped with air flow, but the outside street noise was so bad with party-goers headed to the parking lot, street cleaners and delivery trucks that sleep was difficult at best.

The hotel staff was very apologetic about the heat (lack of AC) and offered to move us to a non-west facing room. They also provided a free breakfast as compensation. As with many hotels in Europe, the heat and air conditioning are controlled by the calendar, so be aware of predicted temperatures before you book your stay.

Room Tip: Street rooms are subject to significant noise if you keep windows open. Check the calendar to deter...

“Clean”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2011

This is a nice and adequate hotel, but it's a nightmare to get to as Caen has a large pedestrian precinct which blocks a lot of the ways in. Parking is in the Parking de la Republique, and following the signs to that was the easiest way to find it. Verg handy to Caen's downtown. Staff were friendly if not particularly knowledgeable.
