Hubby and I stayed here, on a B&B basis, with a coach party on our tour of the Normandy Beaches and Mont St Michel, at the end of May 2011.
Our room was basic, but clean, with a very small bathroom - perfectly adequate for a budget break. However, we dined in the hotel restaurant on our first night and - with most of our party choosing to do the same - it quickly became clear that the staff couldn't cope, even though we were expected. Our waiter was pleasant enough but, after our starters, we waited about 45 minutes for our main course, before realising that we'd been overlooked in the "rush" (the restaurant was barely half full!). We attracted someone's attention and finally received our dinners (no apology though). The food was very much below standard - cold and tough.
When we had originally order from the waiter, he took our room number, so we assumed it was reasonable for us to simply leave the restaurant when we'd finished, thinking we'd settle up on checkout day. However, the staff that had been so elusive during dinner when we'd waited for ages for our food, suddenly became very pro-active and one actually chased us out of the restaurant, yelling that we hadn't paid! We were very embarrassed and amazed that we were expected to pay-as-you-go! What, then, was the point of taking our room number when we ordered? We've never, ever, stayed in a hotel where we didn't pay for meals and extras at checkout.
The one redeeming feature was the buffet breakfast, although it would be difficult to mess up self-service cereal, pastries, bread etc. (Plus cold meats/chesses etc for the Germanic people!) Still, it was very fresh and tasty and there was plenty of variety and nothing to stop you going back for seconds, although they ran out of the granola/muesli early on each day!
Another coach party arrived a couple of days after us - Canadians, I think - and I felt vaguely embarrassed about what they might think of the place, given that hospitality is done so much better in Canada and the US. Don't know why I should feel like that, but I did - as if Europe lets the side down sometimes!
Aaaanyway, if you're past the student/backpacker stage, I don't think I could really recommend this place, unless your budget is so tight that you're willing to overlook the faults.
We certainly won't be going back.
