“Very successful visit”

We spent 5 nights at the Hotel de France in Caen with the the purpose of the visit to experience the D Day landing beaches and a visit to the Bayeaux Tapestry. The Hotel was ideal for our needs, close to the station and a short walk into the centre of Caen with good value eating places within easy reach. The room was comfortable ( comfort room) with good bathroom & plenty of fresh towels. The staff were friendly and helpful. We did not have breakfast but just went along the road (towards the station) to a very nice cafe.I would use Caen as a base to visit other areas in Normandy.Bayeaux was 20 mins on the train. The tapestry is a 'must see'.The other highlight was a visit to the Memorial de Caen Museum followed by an excellant tour of the beaches ( booked at the Tourist Information office)

“Would stay again”

We stayed here one night to visit the D-Day Beaches and Caen Memorial. Our room was moderately sized by US standards (large by French standards) and very clean and comfortable. The front desk was staffed 24 hrs/day and very friendly but didn't always speak English. Main area attractions were too far to walk to from this hotel (but we had a car).

“Great location to get to train station”

This is not your fancy dancy hotel, but very clean and friendly and helpful staff and good breakfast! We stayed one night here as we were taking the train from Caen to Paris. After spending time in Normandy and renting a car (Hertz is right down the street) this was the ideal hotel to stay in. It is less than a 5 minute very safe walk to the train station. The hotel is located far enough that it was very quiet to get a good nights sleep for our early train departure the next morning. Would stay again.

“We won two nights here in a competition !”

Thought it was a bit of a joke really and decided to make a week of it and follow on afterwards to Honfleur. We weren't expecting much but my goodness, what a nice place. It probably wouldn't appeal to certain people but to us it was a bit of old France. There is a massive buiding site across the road at present and our room, though large, was a bit basic and dowdy. However, it was clean as nip and comfortable. There was a temperamental Nespresso machine in the room and staff went out of their way to make us fresh coffee on a tray with a jug of fresh milk etc. The spotless new bathroom was excellent with plenty of shelving space to put things down ( my bee/bonnet issue). Towels and I think bedlinen, were changed every day ! Staff were lovely, really lovely. Breakfast was excellent with lots of choice. Loved Caen, another suprise of a place for us, loads to see and do. There was a student festival on with amazing fancy dress everywhere.

“Nice hotel in nice location, clean and friendly”

I stayed in the hotel for two nights over the weekend in August and I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel. The reception is clean, the staff were friendly although there were not many staff members about. Loads of leaflets and info, and when I woke up on my first morning and asked for directions at reception, the staff were happy to help and directed me correctly to where I wanted to go. The room was a good size, just right for a nice well looked after double room, nice big window, plently of towels, bed was hard but comfortable enough to sleep on. TV and spacious wardrobe provided. However one element that let my experience down, although I was lucky is that the maid left my bedroom door closed but unlocked, so when I came back in the early evening anyone could have got in all day!!! Aparty from that, if you are willing to pay the rates for this hotel, you won't be let down. The ourside looks quite plain and boring but inside it is well designed and a good hotel in a great location to the small city centre of Caen. The town is literally a 10min, 15 minute leisurely walk and a 5 minute walk tot he train station. Reception was open 24 hours a day and has no qualms about noise, uncleanliness or issues when paying.
