“Decent.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 November 2011

We stayed three nights travelling in a group of 4 adults and 3 children. The hotel rooms were clean and the staff members at the front desk were nice. The hotel lobby had an X-box which my kids loved. The pool area looked nice, but we were there in October so we did not get to use it. The location was good for visiting the Caen Memorial but quite out of the way for visiting the D-Day beaches. The breakfast was decent, but not good enough for my 8 year old picky eater. There are only two restaurants near the hotel which are not the best so we ate one meal in the hotel restaurant and it wasn't that great either, especially not for the price. The hotel doesn't look like much from the outside and the place could really use some new carpeting, but it was clean and the beds were comfortable- that's what matters most.

“Disappointing for a Novotel...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2011

Having stayed here before as a stop-over and being a fan of Novotel as a family hotel, my family stayed here for 3 nights to spend time in Normandy at the D-day beaches.

The hotel is perfectly positioned in terms of access from the ferry and proximity to the main roads, but the downside of this is that there is little around the hotelin terms of restaurants, atmosphere and really anything at all...! As we had two often tired children we therefore ate for all three nights in the hotel restaurant.

The hotel is looking a little tired - especially the corridor carpet which has many dodgy looking stains. The rooms are also tired. Our room was dusty and the bathroom very tired, but the basics were as good as ever in a Novotel - clean sheets, comfy bed, good shower.

We were disappointed with the service in both the bar and the restaurant. They'd run out of Gin on the first night and were not the friendliest bunch we'd ever come across. More frustrating was dinner on the first night when ordering "brochette du porc" and discovering this was andouilette and black pudding (basically an offal kebab!). Surely they could have informed us that this was the case? And the service was slow and sloppy.

Breakfast however - especially with two hungry kids - was excellent (although not cheap).

On the whole I'd say a stopover is good, a holiday is not.

“one night in Caen”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2011

i spent one night in Caen Novotel because I had to catch a very early flight the day after.
The hotel is far away from the city center and there is a huge parking for free.
The room was quite large and comfortable but the furniture is not adequate for the hotel standard: it seems by the way the Novotel standard in that area (in Le havre was the same!) Some doubts about the carpet in the corridor: I am wondering about the hygene!
I had dinner in the restaurant: the dinner was ok but the time needed to make the orderr and to get the food was absolutely unacceptable.
There is a lot to improve!

“Servicable”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

A heavily used plain but utilitarian motel right on the Caen ring road. Plenty of secure parking. Facilities struggling with heavy end of summer use. A notional outside pool. Busy restaurant, we stayed half board, which was an error as the imposed menu choices were so restricted that it was hardly worth eating there. Excellent modern tram into the centre of Caen (too far to walk really). Not much for our eleven year old boy to do, indeed Novotel seems to be very anti children once they cease to be toddlers. Front desk made errors on billing, but a helpful manager tried to sort them out. It all worked, but it is a transit hotel, not a destination.

“We enjoyed our stay at Novotel Caen”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 October 2011

The reception, bar and restaurant staff were really friendly and helpful.
We enjoyed our evening meal and breakfast in the restaurant, the food
was tasty and the service great.
We were all made to feel welcome.
The rooms were comfortable, TV speakers also in the bathroom,
and the decor looked fresh. We would definitely use this hotel
as a stop-over again!
Overnight parking was a bit more secure, as they had a barrier at night.
