“Don't know what to say !”

After a little confusion since reception was not in same hotel as we had booked our rooms, since they combine two hotels together, believe in order to cut the staff short and worst in the restaurant area, way short off staff, but have to give some credit to the cook since we had a great dinner and food was great even that we had to wait for a while for the service. Later in evening we ask for some local info for visiting the landing beaches and the Bayeux from the night receptionist, He is Normandy & d-day encyclopedia, we just followed his step to step guided tour and info. How ever the rooms were cold, dusty and badly need a new decoration, looks like they have been neglecting on investing in this hotel for a while.

“Decent hotel, location great, rooms small”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2011

I always forget when I travel in france that the rooms in old buildings, in the centre of a town are always smaller than 'modern' standards. But wait the rooms had on-suite, a TV, a double bed and there was a lift. The resturant was also of a decent standard and coped really well with the large group of people I was with.

Location is where this hotel wins, and it had a court yard for parking aswell. 150m down the road is Bayeux Cathedral. It isn't the best but for the price, and what we needed it for it was very good.

“Suited it's purpose for a short stay”

Very basic facilities - The hotel is listed as a 3 star however I think it rates as a 2 star on reflection. The room was large and even had a balcony, the sheets an pillows had a musty smell and I suspect the room had not been used for quite a while, the bathroom was a good size and had been re tiled at some stage but the bath and shower were 70s throw backs and were crying out for replacement.
Separate WC also needed replacing but had been re tiled. Breakfast was continental and OK.
Bar was a 24 hr set up but staff were seemingly untrained and not that knowledgeable.
All in it was a convenient position in the town however I wouldn't hurry back to the hotel there as I think it needs a makeover and is starting to look very tired.

“Overdue Review”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 September 2011

Visited this hotel several years ago during April with an old friend. Just came across it while 'surfing', and thought I'd pass along some information about our stay.

My buddy and I were visiting the battlefields, so a comfortable hotel was not high on our agenda. The Luxembourg was fine. It is small, but centrally located (Bayeux is not very large anyhow) and clean. We really enjoyed our stay for some bizarre reasons. When we first got in a young man working the desk checked us in (although he was more interested in chatting up a young lady who was also behind the desk). We got our key, and the young couple disappeared. We had no idea where to go so we wandered. There was literally no one around. We went into a kitchen, It was large and clean, and we checked out what was being served that evening and helped ourselves to some bread and butter. Finally found our room - small but nice. It contained two single beds, a set of drawers, and bath (again small but clean). The room colors were rather bright, especially when the rest of the hotel was more dark and earthy. Went out touring the area which was very pleasant and safe.

When we returned to the hotel, again we found no one available even though there was a line for the movie theater across the street. There was another young man bartending (while also feeding the lobsters in the tank), and of course we asked where was the best place to go for drinks. Interestingly he did not recommend the hotel. We ended up at an Irish Pub with a Scottish name (Loch Ness?) full of Belgium girls speaking English. Getting back to our room, my friend decided we should have separate rooms (he snores!). So we went behind the reception desk (again no one there) and got another key. We left a note (in French and English), but never heard from anyone, went back through the kitchen and sipped some wine that was open on the counter, and had a pleasant sleep in our rooms.

Next morning was breakfast. A very small but pleasant dining room with good food and excellent service. We told our waiter about our adventures and asked who we should talk to. She smiled and just shrugged her shoulders. We spent the day at the beaches and touring the battle areas (truly interesting and moving). When we returned to the hotel that night my friend went to his "room". Only this time there had been an influx of British high school students on an educational field trip. He (a large red-bearded Yank) had an interesting time explaining to a few of them why he was removing his clothes from their drawers! We went back to the reception desk to try and sort everything out. The person at the desk had gone to supposedly get some bags. There were some late arriving high school kids there and they were getting fidgety, so we went behind the desk and got them their room keys and checked them in as best we could (there was a paper with names and room assignments on the desk). We went back through the kitchen. This time there was a chef in there who asked if we we were looking for the carpark (?!). We ended up chatting with him for a while and sharing some fairly good cheese.

We checked out the next morning. A different person was at the desk and really didn't want to hear our story. We were charged for one room, one night, and one breakfast despite our saying we owed more (probably considerably more).

All in all, I would go back to this hotel. It was clean, and sure provided us with one of the most interesting/amusing stays I have ever enjoyed.

“A place to sleep in Bayeux...to be ready to tour Normandy”

2 star quality, but ok. Good location--walkable to anywhere in Bayeux. Slept better in the beds than we expected--but don't expect the US style beds in most of Europe anyway. For the price, it was clean, convenient, and had parking for 9 euros--easily worth it. So thumbs up when you check the bill and consider this a place to rest your head and get ready for an amazing tour of Normandy (get a guide, for sure...)
