Major problem is that the hotel is not easy to locate unless one has a good city map covering a larger area than the one in Rough Guide. If arriving by car, one gets easily entangled in the nearby highway system. Still, it is only 10-15 minutes on foot from Lille Flandres train station, just a very short ride by taxi: 3.50 euros ordinary fare but 9 euros at night. Five more minutes and one is in the city center. Ok walking at day but some may feel a little uncomfortable when dark, probably without reason.
Free private parking in enclosed backyard.
No traffic noise even though it's close to major highways.
Nice clean bathroom with hairdrier, but bedroom rather small. Good beds. Coffee and teamaking kit in room, desk and a chair. No drawers, just a few clothes hangers. No A/C which is a definite drawback during hot summer days, since there is only one big window to open for fresh air. If it starts raining, which happened to us in a hot night, the window must be shut, and then it gets really very stifling. Cable tv but only French channels.
Reception area is open and wide with sofas and chairs, TV and internet connection: Good opportunities for socializing. Friendly people in the reception but frenchspeaking only.
At about 50 euros a night for a double room with a good buffet breakfast included (through HotelClub), I feel this was rather good value for basic accomodation.
