We booked and pre-paid for a package with a standard room, breakfast and parking over a weekend in November through last minute.com. The hotel is well situated and only a few minutes walk from many restaurants and the shopping centres and squares of the old town. On arrival we found the secure underground carpark very tight to park our Volvo estate in. Our room was very small, badly laid out and not clean, with stains on the carpet, a large squashed fly on the wall next to the bed, the window was very dirty and had adhesive residue from a large label on the outside and which had obviously been there for some time. The bathroom had a structural pillar right in the middle of it and the bath was badly chipped, the sink was yellow and stained instead of its original white, there were dust balls all around the top of the walls and the ceiling was badly stained from condensation above the bath (lovely relaxing bath - I think not). If you wanted to work you would have to use the bed as half the desk was taken up by a badly positioned very large wall mounted tv. Breakfast on Saturday was absolute chaos. It was served from 07.30 to 11.00 and we got down at about 09.30. The tables that weren't occupied (about 50%) had not been cleared, they had run out of plates, cutlery, pots for tea and coffee, cold meats, milk, croissants, eggs, bacon and sausages. On sunday it was better (we came down early) but finding a hair in my scrambled egg was not exactly the highlight of my weekend, we found out why the tables weren't cleared, there were two staff on duty for 64 rooms and they did not clear tables as they went, we were left with an accumulation of plates, cups and glasses, as were all the other tables. After breakfast on Saturday I complained to reception, he was completely uninterested and just shrugged, he would not change the room unless we paid more and insisted that we hadn't paid for breakfast and said he wouldn't charge us for breakfast on saturday. When I mentioned that I would be reviewing the hotel online his attitude changed but he still would not do anything about the room and said we had to speak to the manager on monday morning (there is no management over the weekend). I spoke to the manager on monday morning and she said she would make a refund but not how much and would not give me any written evidence of that offer and just said I would have to contact the booking agent when I got home. I insisted she rang them and organised the refund and that they confirmed it before we left. Eventually she did so once I had produced the number. They agreed to refund us for the Saturday night, which was the most expensive and I have heard from last minute that they have received the refund but I am still waiting for it to be credited to my card. I spoke to other guests who were satisfied with their rooms but we would not stay in this hotel again and would have left on Saturday if we had not pre-paid. I would not reccomend anyone with mobility issues to stay here as the lift does not go the reception and you have to climb a set of stairs to access it and another to get to the dining room, which again has no lift access. This was only a three star hotel but it was not cheap and did not deserve the third star and every hotel should be clean, regardless of rating.
