“Great location - beautiful, calm hotel”

Having attended a conference here a few years ago, I decided it would be a nice place to stay when I returned to Lille with my partner for a weekend break. The hotel is in a lovely location, tucked away in a renovated canal area. It is very close to the old town and many shops, bars and restaurants. However, it is a long walk to the Eurostar terminal and I would recommend a taxi if you have much luggage.

The hotel is a beautiful converted building and it has a very calm atmosphere. The public areas are particularly well done, and it is very popular as a conference venue. The bedrooms are less special - we got a deal on the accommodation, so I am sure that we were staying in one of the more basic rooms. However, it was very comfortable and had everything we needed.

The breakfast was good - we didn't need much lunch afterwards. We didn't eat in the restaurant - it looked expensive and there are so many interesting restaurants in Lille that we preferred to eat out each evening. However, we did visit the bar a couple of times. Whilst quite expensive, I can thoroughly recommend the cocktails!

We would stay there again.

“Period hotel, no facilities, good breakfast”

This hotel is a converted convent, so there were lots of beautiful features like exposed brick beams and high ceilings. Our room was on the 2nd floor facing the inside car park, but it was nice enough and quiet.
Rooms were modern but with remnants of 1980s decor. For instance, I'm not sure why they would chose to keep the 1980s style hairdryer (fixed to the wall) or the ugly doors when renovating the bathroom, which had the most luxurious rainforest shower and frameless shower screen. Not all rooms have a shower, we were asked on arrival if we preferred a room with a shower or bath.
There are tea/coffee making facilities and a flat screen TV. There are no facilities in the hotel, which is a shame.
The hotel is quite a distance from the Eurostar train station, being on the other side of the town, but not nearly as far from shops & restaurants as other reviewers mentioned. A mere 5-10 min walk will bring into their vicinity and 12 mins will bring you into the centre of town.
Continental breakfast was pretty good with pastries, tarts, breads, cereals, yoghurt, fruit as well as hot selection of scrambled eggs, bacon and sausages.
We got a deal with the price from Octopus.com, so it was good value, otherwise the regular prices are about a third higher.
Parking is extra, we were very lucky to find a parking space just outside the hotel, but free off street parking is limited. Wifi is also quite expensive.

“Lovely place to relax”

This is the second time I have stayed at this hotel, the first time we had a room facing the Quai du Wault, so there was very little noise. This time we had a room facing the inner courtyard of the hotel, which houses the restaurant and bar. As a result the room was very noisy as this area is very large so noise was accentuated, particularly in the morning when they were setting up for breakfast at 6.30! The hotel itself is lovely which is why we went back and I will go back again. We went for the Christmas market, Lille also has some lovely shops. We ate in the bar as the restaurant is quite expensive. But breakfast is substantial as it is a buffet, so you can keep going back for more and there is plenty of choice. The building is a converted convent so architecturally interesting, converted in 1990, the rooms are looking a bit dated, but are spacious and very comfortable. It is about 10 minutes walk from the centre, but we liked this as we could get away from the Christmas crowds, there is a very calm atmosphere. Would recommend, just check which side of the hotel your room is!!

“These Boots Were Made for Walking”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 December 2011

The architecture of this former convent has been attractively perserved in the restaurant area, but the away from town centre location means the hotel requires taxi for arrival and departure if, as many do to Lille, you've come without a car by Eurostar. Getting to city centre shops etc requires a lengthy hike, or a taxi again, because central Lille has no bus services. Council prefers 'Boris' bikes, or motor bike/car hire - OK for locals but not for short trip visitors.

Probably because of location, hotel seems to concentrate on hosting business meetings. You can feel you're in a conference centre not a hotel. Rooms VG and food/drinks very acceptable but latter are 'pricey' - reflecting the business class dominance.. The 'young executives' too tied to Power Point presentations to get out of the hotel, so location not a problem.

Room Tip: Ground floor area adjacent to confe rence rooms and restaurant best bet.
