“Well located modern hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2011

Choosing where to stay in Rocamadour is a compromise. Do you opt for the hotel with atmosphere and charm, but geographically impossible to locate and park or do you elect for modern functionality, with ease of access and plenty of parking ?

We opted for the latter, knowing just how crowded and choatic the place can become, particularly in summer.

We were not disappointed - the hotel is modern and functional, located at the top of the hill in generous parklike grounds. The room, whilst not large was functional and comfortable. The pool was inviting on a hot September day - our only wish was that the pool was open a longer in the evening and much earlier in the day (we enjoy an early morning or early evening swim).

The breakfast was a comprehensive buffet with more than enough on offer to please all.

The hotel is well located for a walk down into the town, or if you are so inclined to the elevator into town.

The proprietor was more than helpful in suggesting and booking restaurants in the evening.

Overall, we were please with our stay and felt that we had received very good price value.

“Hotel fair. Room and bed not that marvellous”

Whilst staying at this hotel, my husband said "if this is the second best hotel in Rocamadour [according to Tripadvisor], that doesn't say much for Rocamadour!" and I have to agree. Actually the hotel is basically OK but I think we were unlucky with our room.

However to start at the beginning, I didn't feel particularly welcomed on our arrival. The Madame was clearly quite stressed and whilst I was sympathetic to that, as a paying guest, I didn't really appreciate it. Our room, which was very clean, was a disabled room. Whilst I'm all in favour of those facilities, it meant that the shower was part of the bathroom (i.e. no shower curtain or screen) which meant the whole bathroom floor got wet. Yes we had a squeedgy mop thing to clear up after ourselves but that didn't help much on rough surfaced tiles. Worse than that, the bathroom had no curtain or blind, albeit some wooden slats outside, which meant other guests walking past could look right in! The other big issue with the room was the bed - one of those past its sell-by date which meant you rolled into the middle all the time. Plus it squeaked if you so much as blinked! My other pet hate about the room was an interconnecting door to another room although luckily, I didn't hear a peep out of any other residents.

Breakfast was good every day and we were made to feel very welcome.

The hotel is in a good location but beware the steep hills into the main centre of Rocamadour. To walk back to the hotel from dinner in the centre of Rocamadour probably took 15-20 minutes.

Would I visit this hotel again? No I wouldn't but then I can't imagine wanting to come to the very touristy Rocamadour again either. I'm sure if you had a better room and bed, you would have a pleasant stay at Les Esclargies.

It is for the reasons mentioned that I have only rated this hotel 2/5. Had we not had issues with our room, I would have awarded it a 3/5 or 4/5. On a positive note, it was spotless.

“solid rock in its own peaceful orchard”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2011

plenty of parking. beautiful pool, wonderful breakfast and large clean rooms, fitted with latest
bath fittings. The hotel has a computer running 24/7 (free), coded late entry into the property
super lady taking care of all your needs. No dinner restaurant..so you feel no guilt going out
at night to eat. Plenty of restaurants and shops within 5 minutes walking, and most importantly
it is 2 minutes walk to the elevator that takes you down to the church (the main attraction in
town). Do not take the silly blue train

Room Tip: all rooms are unique (17 rooms)

“Good location, beautifully designed hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2011

Me and my girlfriend stayed over at this hotel for one night when we visited the Rocamadour.
The hotel was generally good. Room was spacious and well designed, well equipped.

The negatives were, although it says it has a private car park, it isn't exactly.
The hotel has a private road (no gate) and basically the garden area of hotel is the parking area but there is no security cameras or gates, etc. (Couldn't see any)
This may not be an issue for many, it's just that I'm a car enthusiast and one of the reason I booked this hotel was because it sad it has secured private car park. (I drove from UK to here, now writing in Cannes)
Also, the shower didn't really work properly, perhaps due to lack of water in the town. Town's pretty small and very country side. The thing that bothered me was that the temperature of water changed every 5~6 minutes and sometime's it's so hot I thought my neck's gonna get burnt.
The lady there was kind, however for some reason she seemed to be not understanding my English and tend to be nervous and hesitant while talking to us.(??)
I actually live in UK and have no problem with English.
Not sure if it had anything to do with our ethnicity but perhaps it wasn't usual for her to face asians, I don't know..
Other than that, it was fine. The room rate could be considered high but you get what you paid for. The location's fantastic, walk to the chateau and the lift takes a few minutes, local restaurants and shops are in walking distance.

Room Tip: If you're facing the back garden of hotel, you're probably better off with ground floor room...
