“Rory from Down Under”

We are annual visitors to France and this year brought a group of 14 to spectacular Rocamadour. This hotel is a 3 star property and has a sister hotel (2 Stars) called Relais Amadourien. Both properties are well run and maintained. The owner, Madame Marnac is a woman of incredible energy and dedication who also owns the adjacent restaurant (where all meals are served). The food is nothing if not exceptional and is constantly frequented by both tourists and the local french population (which is always a reliable barometer for quality). The french are a race of people who are never satisfied with second rate food and will not tolerate it (nor why should they).

My wife and I always inspect each property in the preceeding year to our intending visit in order to ensure that it meets the highest standards so that our groups are always satisfied and this establishment certainly passed the test. We have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to others and especially so the restaurant. As for the region of the Lot in general and the Cite of Rocamadour in particular, it can only be described as "breathtaking". The hotel complex also has a substantial outdoor swiming pool which is a bonus for either those who need a wakeup swim at the break of dawn or in our case, in the late afternoon after a "hard day's exploration of the numerous villages within reach of the hotel before partaking of a G&T or whatever takes your fancy. This place certainly deserves a visit.

Room Tip: All of our rooms overlooked the nearby countryside. We experienced continual peace and quiet from la...

“Great hotel excellent food and accommodation”

Enormous comfortable bed, spacious bedroom, excellent shower, pleasant location with easy access to town by lift.
Our group arrived at midnight (breakdown of Eurostar) and were served a very good freshly cooked meal. We enjoyed good French food and wine and comfortable accommodation. It is not a trendy hotel just one that provides very good service and facilities.

“Horrible hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 June 2011 via mobile

You kind of wonder how they got 3 stars. The room was horrible, the bed was tiny, the hotel is in serious need of an update (stuck in the 70's).
We came back from diner at 11pm and the door was lock with no way to open it yourself. We had to wake up and old lady and apologize for it.... The Internet is not working, the wifi or the computer in the lobby. When we said something we were told that it was working and when we showed them the answer was "well I don't know it's not my fault. It must be the server"....
Lack of customer service!!!!

“The sun was out, the tour was great, this hotel has no complaints from us”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 June 2009

We had booked a Crusader Tour to France and I looked up this hotel on trip advisor and was fearing the worse.
But we liked it and so did our tour group. It is in a perfect position and the grounds are level. We were in the main building where the reception centre is and also the breakfast room.. We were up one flight of stairs which we did walk up and down a lot, it could have been worse. It was practise for the stairs of Rocamadour. There is a large half covered pool, a paved patio and lounges in reception.

To go to dinner you need to walk a little to the restaurant but twice we had dinner out under the trees/stars. Opposite this restaurant there is a bar where we ended up after the main meal for coffee, wine and specially made iced coffee..- mention the couple from Australia if you ask for iced coffee.

From this hotel you can walk down to the medieval village with all the shops and restaurants, it is a longish pathway. You can catch the lift both both down and up from our hotel, if you do not want to walk. There is a small village you go through before the hotel which has fabulous views and also shops and restaurants..

We had no problems with the food, each meal was different followed by local cheese and desert.

Tips
1. Put in a swimming costume
2. Put in a small electic jug/birko and cups. There is no fridge so you will need powdered milk or similar, tea bags etc. There is a small supermarket near the tourist bureau in the village.
3. We found the Rocamadour village down below the best prices and regret not buying our presents/souveneirs there.
4. Make sure if you go on a tour you get a map of the area.
5. Make sure you say 'Bonjour - good day, Merci - thankyou and Aurevour - goodbye all the time to everyone who is French and you will get good service and happy faces.

I could not rate this hotel for value as it was in a bed and breakfast and dinner deal with Crusader Tours
