“No disabled toilet iin public areas - was told to go to another hotel to use the toilet”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2010

We recently attended this hotel as part of the social night during the Catholic Association Annual Pilgrimage to Lourdes. My mother who is in a wheelchair needed the toilet and was informed by the reception staff who understood/spoke reasonable English that this hotel does not have disabled facilities, We were shown that if she wanted to use the toilet she would have to get her wheelchair up 3 steep stairs. I appreciate it is Lourdes and miracles can happen but this did make me smile!!!! My mother a pensioner, had no alternative than to return to her own hotel some five mins distance away just to use the toilet.

Whilst I thought the decor in this hotel was nice, I thought their facilities were particularly bad for anyone with limited mobility. I would not recommend this hotel for this group of travellers.

“Great location, but needs some improvement”

My mom and I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. We had previously visited Lourdes about 20 years ago, and this hotel was definitely an improvement from the last Lourdes hotel we stayed in. This one had much more modern amenities, and more spacious lobby area. This hotel has a great location, and is withn 5 min walk to the sanctuaries.

Breakfast was decent selection - suprisingly better than the hotel breakfast we had in Paris. The buffet also includes serve yourself coffee. It woud probably be helpful if there is a sign which indicates that coffee is serve yourself. We were waiting at our table to be served coffee for a little while until we realized that we were to get it at the buffet. Needless to say, the hospitality at the breakfast buffet is lacking.

Internet is available through a shared computer in the lobby. The compuer was old, and the internet connection was slow at times. Both the computer and the internet connection could use an upgrade.

Rooms are typically small, old French period style, but clean. We had A/C in our room. Hallways are creepy at night because they have motion sensor lights. Otherwise, the hallways are completely dark. I recommend for the hotel to install some hallway lighting that is permanently on because of safety issues. It seems unsafe to have dark hallways - especially with numerous disabled people who travel to Lourdes.

Some of the reception desk staff were friendly, but others were less friendly. My biggest complaint was with one of the hotel reception desk staff. We asked some basic questions about the activities at the sanctuaries, and her usual response was, "I don't know. Go ask the Sanctuary Information desk." She did not go out of her way to help us,or to call the Sanctuary info desk for more info. You would think that all hotels have info about the Sanctuaries at their fingertips since that is the main reason why most people travel to Lourdes.

All in all, I would still recommend this hotel, but with some reservations.

“Quaint rooms, convenient to the Grotto”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 August 2010

I stayed at the Gallia Londres with a group of tourists to experience the Tour de France. The location was wonderful if you are visting the Basilica. Parking for the hotel was difficult and the rooms were noisy at all hours. My room faced the street on the third floor and it was easy to tell when the bars closed at night. The rooms were small, but they were very clean. The beds are singles and there isn't much extra floor space. The air conditioning was non-existent so the room seemed stuff and warm. The free breakfast had a wide selection of itmes and food was plentiful. The staff was very helpful and gracious. The television was extremely small (18" screen) and had limited cable stations available. There was wi-fi availble in the lobby, but it was unavailable in the third floor room. I think this hotel is as good or better than anyplace else in town. The lobby and bar area are well appointed and decorated with antiques.

“Bedbugs, bad food, noise: stay here only if you are a pilgrim”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 August 2010

I was here as part of a group following the Tour de France, and Lourdes was a convenient base for the mountain stages. Lourdes itself is a crazy place, and if you're not a pilgrim there is no reason to go. The hotel is located very close to the grotto, and religious souvenir stores.

Although our room was facing away from the street, we found it noisy each night, where we could hear people yelling and singing. We also were treated to an air raid siren in the middle of the night.

The hotel is supposedly one of the top hotels, but is maybe on par amenity-wise with a Motel 6. Rooms were not dirty, but were old and the pink bathroom unusual. The rooms are small, with not enough room to open luggage on the floor, very little storage space and almost inaccessible plugs. To use the hairdryer you needed to be a contortionist. The beds were twin beds pushed together with separate bedding, so no cuddling was possible. Each room came with its own crucifix.

Breakfast was edible, but not great. The group dinner was like bad cafeteria food - tasteless and unappetizing. The bar had old sagging furniture and we were suspicious of the cleanliness.

Our next door neighbors had a bedbug encounter, which at least was handled well by staff, who moved them to another room. We otherwise had no service issues.

“Don't compare 4 stars in Lourdes with other cities”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 August 2010

This was our 4th visit to Lourdes, 1st stay at this hotel. Overall this is a very nice hotel. The room (3 beds) & the bathroom was clean. Breakfast was fine. Dinner was expensive for the quality of the food (I suggest eating elsewhere). Employees were very nice. Proximity to the grotto- excellent. Easy walk home after the evening procession. The only negative was the air conditioning or lack thereof. It is regulated by the people at the front desk. I asked them multiple times about it. Either it didn't work or they did not put it low enough to make a difference. None of the hotels we stayed at in prior years had working air conditioning & that is why we tried this 4 star. Maybe the newer hotels further away from the grotto might have better air conditioning, but due to the proximity to the grotto, we will probably come back here. Another plus, they have gated parking directly behind the hotel. There is a daily fee, but it is well worth it.
