Where to start with this hotel; it looks fine on the outside, the location is convenient and can be found easily. The foyer looks good also - and thats the end of the good news.
We arrived about 1030 at night and the night porter was surly to the point of rudeness. A small group of pilgrims followed us as the porter pointed in the general direction of the lift, all of us were confused as to what was happening. Eventually we found the lift and helped get the elderly group into the lift and onto the right floor for them. We continued to search out our room in the back of beyond with a howling wind coming through the corridor.
The room (608) was small and poorly equipped and in a state of disrepair. The shower fitting was at knee height with no shower curtain, so basically everything got wet when taking a shower.
The wind was whipping under the door to the room all night.
The following morning the electricity failed an it took over 30 minutes to get the problem sorted - not to bad for us as independent travelers; but for the sick pilgrims this caused a deal of distress.
Breakfast consisted of a small piece of bread, a croissant 1/4 liter of orange (between two), a thin slice of ham and a thin slice of cheese. When asked for more orange juice the answer was initially a short sharp 'Non!' but when asked in French orange juice magically appeared. People were actually taking food of other plates and off plates fo those who had finshed.
This may well have been suitable for sick pilgrims but younger and healthier people may actually need and/or expect a little more form a 3* hotel.
Breakfast did not improve on the second day nor did the attitude.
Check out time was a joke - the room had to be vacated by 0900 - even though breakfast did not finish until 0915; the cleaner kindly turned up to try and get us to vacate the room at 0830! He did not succeed.
Come back Basil Fawlty all is forgiven.
