The timing of my visit to Metz was to visit the Christmas Markets and the Pompdou Centre as well as visiting some other towns in the area by train. It happened to coincide with early snow fall. I got a good deal so traded up from the Ibis which is my usual Accor htel standard. The building is great with a staircase that is wide enough for ladies in grand, large late 19th Century dresses. On the other hand the lift was worryingly wheezey. Reception was professional and friendly enough. Breakfast was fine - the bread was very high quality. The room was comfortable but in a sense over-designed - another reviewer has mentioned the absence of shelves or racks in the shower room and personally I thought the TV a bit too big.

Complete though somewhat dark room. Nice breakfast. Centrally located, bus car has to be parked elsewhere (at teh railway station carpark, a few minutes walk). Centrally located, 10 min. walk to center and the beautifull new Centre Pompidou Metz.

We used our Euro-rail pass and the hotel as an excellent base to explore the historic city of Metz as well as Luxembourg and Strasbourg. The hotel is ideally located near the rail station and a short 15 minute walk to the old town. I considered the few recent Trip Advisor reviews available when making our decision to stay and I agree with their high ratings. While it is in and historic old building, the hotel is modern and well maintained with large and comfortable guest rooms. The included breakfast was adequate and typical for hotels throughout this region. We found the availability of tea and coffee making facilities on the ground floor a nice touch. We were pleasantly surprised with the room rate, as it was a lot less than the quote I had obtained many weeks prior to travel. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel.
