“Charming Stay in Nancy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 October 2011

We had no expectations while pulling in Nancy, we slowly drifted through the quant streets and found our way to the old town and finally our hotel, The Hotel de Guise. I can't say enough about how wonderful our stay was. Upon check in we entered an airy hallway and were greeted by a lovely warm smile. The service was fast efficient and helpful (the concierge spoke very good english and informed us of the events in town)

We checked in to our room on the second floor and had a quick look around, the staircase with its warn steps and spiral feel gave us a romantic and historical feel... the decor was subtle through the public spaces and becomes more warming in the guest rooms. The room has plenty of space, was clean and had some very nice architectural features (original wood flooring and nails, fire place and ceiling plates. This is one of the best locations I have stayed in as the hotel is on a quiet side street in the middle of everything ( I know that sounds weird but it's true...) within 3 mins you are on a main street with 2 of the best bakeries I visitied in France, walk the other directions your taking in some cafe/bars cathedrals and myriad of tourist stops and interesting stores. I will most certainly be back to visit Nancy and will be booking back in to the Hotel Guise.

Room Tip: Before booking this hotel check out a few of the online booking promotions, we managed to save over...

“Wonderful Location, Wonderful Hotel & Fantastic Staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2011

The Hotel de Guise in Nancy is a real gem! The Hotel was built in 1752 and is just wonderful The feature inside is a magnificent stone staircase., The hotel is really in the heart of the old town of Nancy and very close to the beautiful Stanislas Place. Shops (including an English speaking chemist) and Restaurants are all close by.
The real treasure of this Hotel is the Manager and his staff. They all speak fluent English and are easy to have a conversation with. They were just so helpful to me. Unfortunately I have lost the names of the young Manager and his two lovely female assistants, but I must relate my story so that others can see how good this Hotel really is.
I arrived at midday and had an awful head cold. I felt absolutely terrible and all I wanted to do was to lie down and go to sleep. I was told that my room would not be available until 3-00pm. But, the young lady could see how unwell I was and asked if I needed anything. I asked for a glass of water. I was sat down in a beautiful chair in reception and was brought a 750ml bottle of sparkling mineral water and a real glass, not plastic (I later found that I was NOT charged for this)
Without me asking. the same young lady changed my room from the 1st floor up the beautiful staircase to a ground floor room that was available immediately. I had booked a single room, but with the change I was given a family room with 2 double beds in it, at the SINGLE ROOM RATE. She wheeled my suitcase for me and showed me into the room. The Hotel does not have air comditioning, and it Was quite warm that day. I asked if they had a fan and one was delivered within 3 minutes of my request. This was personal service of a level that I have not experienced before!
Talking with the very young Manager later the next day he explained that is was virtually impossible to air condition the building because of its design and age, 259 years old. He also explained that his management philosophy was to give the customer the ultimate in personal service and every comfort thar was possible. I can personally confirm that he has succeded in every aspect of that ideal and can recommendhis Hotel to anybody. I personally scored it 9.8 out of 10, and if they improved their meidocre breakfast I would have no hesitation in awarding them 10 out of 10 (for a 2 star Hotel that is. I am not trying to compare them to a Hilton!)
If they read this review (and I really hope that they do) I wish to say to the three of them....thank you all so very very much for all that you did for me.
Bob Sandercock from South Australia

Room Tip: There is no lift in this 259 year old building, so if you have very heavy suitcases and do not want...

Dear Sir,

all the staff and me want to thank you a lot for all these wondefull compliments. We are just trying to do our job as best as we can and the most important thing for us is to make our guests feel like at home.
However, we've noticed your remarks concerning the breakfast : we are planning to improve it for the new year with fresh fruits and better quality concerning the drinks.
We wish you all the best and hope to see you again in our hotel (without the headcold!)

“rather happy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 September 2011

my room was a little dark and old, but apart from that no complaints. Standard equipped, friendly staff, a beautiful stairway, and good location in the old town of Nancy.

“Third stay; we'll be back”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 August 2011

What a great hotel. The public spaces are 3-star level. The rooms (we were in 218 this time, our third stay) are nice but 2-3 star quality. The room size was adequate, bathroom was small (toilet was a bit cramped), but the room was super clean. The shower was large and quite clean too. We had a small fan in room which was nice as it was quite warm/humid when we arrived this past weekend. However, the day cooled off and the fan was no longer needed. Our room overlooked rue de Guise on the second floor. Other rooms (we looked while the maids were cleaning) on the second floor seemed a tad larger but all in all, all rooms are quite nice. Breakfast is standard French fare. Nothing to get excited about but it was included in our reservation (great deal via hotels.com at euro 77). I'd skip it next time and go elsewhere. The location of the hotel is great. Most anything worth seeing is within 15 minutes walk (except many of the art deco buildings). Street parking is available directly next to the hotel. The better option is the Leopold public parking (offered by reception staff) at euro 8.80 for 24 hours and only 100 meters walking distance (1.1 kms by driving due to all the one-way streets). The Port de Craffe is about 200 meters from the hotel. Place Stanislas is a 10 minute walk. The main shopping street is 15 minutes walk. Rue Grand, with its shops, cafes, and restaurants is 1 minute from the hotel.
The beds are fine; the pillows (not feather) could be better. But the room did have 4 pillows total

Room Tip: I wish I knew

“Great Value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 May 2011

I have traveled to France many times and this was by far the largest and nicest single room I have stayed in. The hotel is in a former mansion, which adds to the charm. We had two newly renovated single rooms (could still smell the paint). The only drawback is that access was by a narrow staircase. (And possibly parking. Luckily we had a GPS to navigate the city and find parking.) The hotel is not far from the the historic square and other museums. Wish I had more time to explore Nancy. Great value for the money.
