The Hotel de Guise in Nancy is a real gem! The Hotel was built in 1752 and is just wonderful The feature inside is a magnificent stone staircase., The hotel is really in the heart of the old town of Nancy and very close to the beautiful Stanislas Place. Shops (including an English speaking chemist) and Restaurants are all close by.
The real treasure of this Hotel is the Manager and his staff. They all speak fluent English and are easy to have a conversation with. They were just so helpful to me. Unfortunately I have lost the names of the young Manager and his two lovely female assistants, but I must relate my story so that others can see how good this Hotel really is.
I arrived at midday and had an awful head cold. I felt absolutely terrible and all I wanted to do was to lie down and go to sleep. I was told that my room would not be available until 3-00pm. But, the young lady could see how unwell I was and asked if I needed anything. I asked for a glass of water. I was sat down in a beautiful chair in reception and was brought a 750ml bottle of sparkling mineral water and a real glass, not plastic (I later found that I was NOT charged for this)
Without me asking. the same young lady changed my room from the 1st floor up the beautiful staircase to a ground floor room that was available immediately. I had booked a single room, but with the change I was given a family room with 2 double beds in it, at the SINGLE ROOM RATE. She wheeled my suitcase for me and showed me into the room. The Hotel does not have air comditioning, and it Was quite warm that day. I asked if they had a fan and one was delivered within 3 minutes of my request. This was personal service of a level that I have not experienced before!
Talking with the very young Manager later the next day he explained that is was virtually impossible to air condition the building because of its design and age, 259 years old. He also explained that his management philosophy was to give the customer the ultimate in personal service and every comfort thar was possible. I can personally confirm that he has succeded in every aspect of that ideal and can recommendhis Hotel to anybody. I personally scored it 9.8 out of 10, and if they improved their meidocre breakfast I would have no hesitation in awarding them 10 out of 10 (for a 2 star Hotel that is. I am not trying to compare them to a Hilton!)
If they read this review (and I really hope that they do) I wish to say to the three of them....thank you all so very very much for all that you did for me.

Dear Sir,
all the staff and me want to thank you a lot for all these wondefull compliments. We are just trying to do our job as best as we can and the most important thing for us is to make our guests feel like at home.
However, we've noticed your remarks concerning the breakfast : we are planning to improve it for the new year with fresh fruits and better quality concerning the drinks.
We wish you all the best and hope to see you again in our hotel (without the headcold!)
