Whilst driving back from Cannes we searched for a decent budget hotel to sleep a few hours. At night time we phoned the hotel, the night receptionist was very courteous and we agreed to have a day-room as we expected to arrive at 07:00AM.
Even before the agreed time we arrived in the lobby with our luggage and we greeted with 'Bonjour'. Now the female receptionist frowned, sized up my wife from toe to top and utterted something to the extend of Bonjour. Directly followed by 'I am going to charge you for an extra night' (...in french and I master the language). The female receptionist did not even bother to look at me when she made this statement, nor did she inquire as to why we were checking out well after noon. Now as we did not have a chance to drink coffee nor to have anything to eat as yet, we gave this uneducated receptionist a thunder speech. Instead of making any apology she simply stated that she could not have known we had a day room as her 'system' was unable to tell her. Of course she could have consulted the check-in form but the receptionist was far too busy to keep up her appearance, in vain.
The theatre play also featured an assistant manager and a manager who evidently had little knowledge of hospitality as they claimed they had never had a day-room use at their hotel. A note on the hotel room, it is tiny, scruffy with a malfunctioning air-conditioning. The stench of cigarette smoke comes free of charge. The mattress cover (supposedly to protect the very thin mattress) feels like a plastic layer and is anything but comfortable. The view consisted of a the entrance to the parking garage and concrete walls, absolutely colorless.
Total damage was E. 65,- for the room and E. 9,- for the parking garage. Some hotel employees simply don't understand that hotel guests pay for their salaries. Uneducated comes to mind here. Even the Formule 1 hotels are far better than this pitiful Ibis Hotel with a bad attitude.
