“Hard to find”

We drove round and round Uzes trying to find the place - until we realised it was not actually accesible by car as it is in a pedestrain only street. Had to park illegally only to discover that the hotel parking was not with the hotel - not made clear on Booking.com. As this did not suit what we wanted we cancelled our reservation and left.

They could not have been more welcoming and accommodating. Lovely room clean and comfortable with excellent en suite bathroom. Quiet location in the centre of town. First rate breakfasts and an excellent restaurant for our evening meal.

“C'est Absolument Fabuleuse!!!”

My husband and I were traveling with two other couples and decided to have dinner in Uzes. Using Rick Steves' Provence book, we decided upon La Parenthese. The dinner was quite delicious, and after dinner we asked if they had any open rooms at l'hostellerie. We spent a wonderful night in a beautiful room that looked as though it had been recently renovated. We were quite impressed with the spaciousness of the room and how they had kept the medieval stone structure intact. We enjoyed walking around Uzes that evening and the next morning and found it to be a delightful town, as well as one of the tidiest and cleanest I have ever seen in France! We would not hesitate to stay here again. Bravo et Merci!!!

“Fabulous Hotel, Accomodating Hosts, Marvelous Restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 June 2011

We stayed at the Hostellerie Provencale as part of a bike trip. After riding from Avignon we arrived in the early afternoon to find a beautiful entry and lobby and one of the owners expecting our arrival. Our bikes were whisked off to safe storage and our luggage was already in our room. The room was perfect for three of us, lots of room, flowers in the window boxes and a nice view of the small street below. The spa tub was a welcome extra for cycling legs. The hotel is impeccably decorated with lots of original art and a Hollywood theme. The large stone, typical of Uzes, makes a beautiful building. Located just a few blocks from the Palace aux Herbes, it is an easy walk to the bustling shopping streets and the tourist sites. THE RESTAURANT - wow, roof top terrace, impeccable service from an enthusiastic owner and his staff, very interesting menu and great wine list. One of the owners is also the chef, and it's no wonder they have an excellent reputation; it might have been the best dinner of our 3 weeks in France, certainly one of the top two. We certainly would stay here again, might even make a special trip to Uzes just for another few nights in the hotel and dinner in the restaurant.

“Great rooms, poor service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 May 2011

In short I would warn people about coming here. I'm sure the majority of people have a pleasant stay but I really felt that the service fell a long way short of what I expected.

There are two problems I experienced which left me with the impression that the owner is just out to screw as much money out of customers as possible. The first was that I booked a double room through hotels.com but wanted separate beds (there was no option to do this online). I phoned up before arriving but was told there were no twin rooms available, fine. On arrival we were told that we'd been given a twin room which was great. What he'd not said was that he'd upgraded the room to a deluxe as well for an extra €20 per night. We only found this out at checkout.

The second thing which I would almost describe as a scam is the parking. We were told it was €10 and that if we stayed beyond 9am we would have to pay a few cents more. These were the words used and we had double checked with the owners. On leaving the car park at about 10:30am we had to pay an extra €5 (€15 in total). If we'd just parked in the car park ourselves it would only have cost €11.

These are relatively minor things but what was unpleasant was the owner's attitude, trying to excuse obvious attempts to squeeze extra money out of us by blaming language misunderstandings (my sister who was with me speaks very good French and we understood quite clearly what they were saying). His manner was also rude and abrupt.

The good points of this hotel are well described in other posts so I won't repeat them other than to say that the room and location were great. Overall though the stay left a nasty tate in my mouth.
