After a stay in a superb hotel in the Dordogne we had high expectations of a similar experience in Uzes. We were cruelly disappointed. The Hotel du General d'Entraigues has great potential, as it is located in a very interesting building of historical importance close to the centre of Uzes.Sadly it is very rundown, and in need of major expenditure to bring it up to the standard we associate with a three star hotel. In particular the bedrooms we saw were small and depressing and the bathrooms dingy. The staff could have been better trained and motivated, and we thought the food in the hotel restaurant, on the other side of the street, was pretty ordinary and the service amateurish. At 10pm It proved complicated to get a nightcap. I had to go back to the restaurant, where it took some time to be served, and at a cost of 10 euros for a Cointreau, it would have been simpler and cheaper to buy a bottle in the local supermarket and take it to my room. Sadly I do not think we shall be back at the Hotel du General d'Entraigues, unless it gets a total refurbishment (and probably new management).
