This is not a place going to be the place to take the family for a luxury trip to the south of France, but for four men going to watch the rugby league in Perpignan, it's not too bad.
Situated on the outskirts of the town, it's a bit of walk into town (maybe 20 minutes) and from the outside, it's not much to look at. Inside, the reception is basic and straightforward but clean, and the staff are friendly enough.
Rooms are very basic and on first glance, I got a sense of how Nelson Mandela must have felt for all those years (especially the bars on the windows). But for what we needed, the hotel rooms were perfect. The beds were comfy and very clean, the bathroom was also well maintained and all the lights worked. The air conditioning (which wasn't expected in a 2*) worked a treat.
There's lots of parking, and it's free, and the hotel staff sorted a taxi for us into town in no time. They offer a breakfast buffet, but we didn't try it.
If we go to Perpignan again for next season's game, I would definitely look for somewhere more central (Hotel Mercure where we previously stayed was good), but if Best Hotel was all that was left, I wouldn't have a problem staying again.
Remember though, it's a 2*, so don't expect room service.
