“Great Location!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 October 2007

Just returned from a super 2 night break in Nimes. The hotel is easy to find on foot. We took the shuttle bus from the airport (5 euros) and got off at the Novotel Atria (next stop after the station). The hotel is a few minutes walk from here on the right hand side and is signposted. We have no complaints about the hotel at all. Ok the rooms are small but that seems to be the norm in European budget hotels. Our room was clean and we very much appreciated the air-conditioning! All staff here were very friendly and helpful. The hotel was full when we stayed but it was so quiet. Breakfast has a good basic selection.

The Roman Amphitheatre (the best preserved arena in the world) is well worth a visit, as is the Pont du Gard which can be reached by bus (Bus station is situated behind the railway station, timetables can be found in the Tourist Information Centre).

Train services from Nimes are excellent. We chose to go to Montpellier for the day and bought our tickets from a machine in the station. Trains were clean, not too crowded and on time!

It is possible to eat cheaply in Nimes, we had a 3 course fixed menu for 13 euros (which had snails on the menu so we got to try them!!!)

“A slightly grubby backstreet establishment but you pays your money...”

Yes, I paid bottom dollar for the Kyriad Centre. So I have to accept what we got. What disturbs me most, and see if you agree, is that my photos make the place look like a palace! The camera definitely does lie, in this case!

Anyway, I agree with those here who comment adversely on the in-house parking - on our exit one poor gentleman had to be roused at 6:30am to move his Porsche Boxster because it was boxstering in our Citroen rental. His face was a picture!

The attic room was an oven and the air-con had no controls. Indeed a previous guest must have gotten desperate, because the top of the unit was roughly broken off. You can almost imagine how desperate he/she must have been to do that - no doubt his/her face would also have been a picture! Mind you, our situation was also dire - up at the Pont du Gard, we'd recorded 37 degrees and climbing during the day before our night at the hotel. We didn't take breakfast because we were too early for it. Something tells me now that may well have been fortunate!

This is a bucket shop, budget hotel and in cooler months, it's a bargain for anyone who can rub along a bit with a good sense of humour.

“Beware if you have a car!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 July 2007

Well, well, well......I booked this hotel on the basis of the reviews I saw on this site....but was dissapointed.

Main point...I booked the sucure garage facility at an extra 8.50euro per night to ensure the hire car was safe. When I arrived, I found a tiny undercover car park, which was basically a couple of old cellars knocked together.

When I parked the car, I was asked to leave my keys at reception in case of emergency. I thought this was ok, but was concerned that this was a hire car so the guys in the hotel were not insured.

The next day I found the car parked in the street, unlocked. The hotel staff told me that they had to move it to let someone else out.

To cut a long story short, out of the five nights I stayed in the hotel, the car was parked in the street twice, and left unlocked 3 times.

When I took the car back, I was advised of some damage to the back bumber. I am arguing this, but if I end up loosing out, i'll be 600euro out of pocket to cover the excess.

You might say I was silly not to get full cover, but I risked 8.50 per night secure parking against 15 euro per day excess cover, not expecting the secure cover to cuase the damage.

Please do not use the hotel parking if you are at all concerned about your car.

For the hotel, the bathroom was newly refurbished but the room was very shabby. Having visited france often, I'm used to seeing smaller the average rooms, but this one was very small. I hit my head on the wall mounted TV once, as the first time I walked past the bottom of the bed, I misjudged how little room there was.

Room cleaning staff were great. hotel was clean and functional but have no mosquito nets on window (both my wife and myself have our fair share of bites!)

Also, check the room rates, as I paid 65euro for the tinniest of rooms, whereas tripadvisor quotes an average of 45 euro.

Location is great, but for the money, you can get a better hotel. Check the offers page on novotel atria for example, as the rooms are more spacious, the gagrage is more spacious and secure, and the location is even more central. There are others of course.

So best of luck, but beware the parking situation.

“wow! a true hidden gem! from a very discerning customer!”

I stayed here for two nights in June 2007- all my friends will tell you I am notoriously finicky with regard to service, cleanliness etc - I have to say that this hotel is excellent value for money, scrupulously clean, tastefully decorated, with spacious and pretty rooms and trendy modern bathrooms. The staff were all extremely courteous and helpful - even exhibiting that relatively rare phenomenon amongst the French of a great sense of humour! The Hotel is 2 minutes walk from the main boulevard and in a very safe area. I did not take breakfast but spoke to people who waxed eloquent about the heaps of hot chocolate, fresh juice and warm croissants on offer. English is spoken reasonably well and nothing is too much trouble for the staff who will provide you with maps, restaurant recommendations and anything else you wish to know!

Forget all the characterless and expensive 3 and 4 star places, here you will find the walls decorated with Provencal images by local painters-ok so the television isn't flat screen and there is no mini bar- but who cares? if you go to Nimes to watch TV you must be mad, and why pay minibar prices when just a minute's walk away you can grab a half litre of chilled rose for under 4 quid?! This is the first time I have been moved to write a review - I paid 50 euros for a twin room and it was such a good experience that I wanted to let others know! I have stayed in many Hotels including those from "the leading hotels of the world" group" in Geneva, Ritz Carlton in Montreal and Nile Hilton in Cairo to name but a few - believe me the little Kyriad is better! I would be interested to know if others agree - try it!

“Great location & lovely bath”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 April 2007

Booked this hotel having read previous reviews from Trip Advisors. Had a little trouble finding hotel what with "one ways" and typical littering of badly parked French cars. Car park under hotel was a bit "tight" but luckily my husband had his Mum and Dad to give him helpful manovering suggestions.
Very friendly guy on reception, spoke great english compared to my school days French. We had a nice room, would have been spacious but a camp bed for my three year old took up a little too much room. Fantastic jacuzzi bath! Incredibly clean, having previously worked for Hilton group dirty rooms are a big, bug bare for me especially in older hotels but this was great. Breakfast was very nice, got very busy though so get up in time at weekends.
Nimes was very beautiful this time of year but incredibly cold - infact can't put into words how ridiculously freezing the Mistral winds were. Definitely bring your thermals! Visit the Pont du Gard and warm yourself up with a glass of Chateaux neuf du Pape!
