I arrived expecting to have "renovations" as so many had explained in reviews. Unfortunately, there were few real improvements. The lobby was updated by adding new leather couches (black and red) and some statues of animals and vases. This was mixed in with dying plants, chipping paint, and an overall lack for attention to cleanliness and detail.
I went up the elevator which was looked as though it had never been vacuumed. I walked the dark (a few lights were out) stained carpet hallway to my room after the hotel staff had trouble finding my reservation. Sidenote: The staff seemed run down and confused, making several mistakes with room keys and internet questions during my one night stay. The room was dated and covered in dust. The shower was old and worn. I took one shower and attempted to use the hairdryer and part of it fell off. The corners of the room were stained and when I pulled back the covers on the bed, there was hair (that was NOT mine). I complained and was shown a "better" room.
The gentleman was very friendly and aimed to please. He explained he had purchased it and was "renovating."
The new room I was shown was not much better, but I agreed as I didn't know what else to do. This room had new carpet and a flat screen TV and new curtains. Again, the bathroom seemed unclean with mold in the corners. The room was covered in a layer of dust and again the covers had hair (that was NOT mine).
I had a difficult time sleeping that night. The air conditioner barely worked and I woke up in a sweat several times. I was supposed to stay 3 nights, but made arrangements to go to a hotel closer to the city center. It was well worth the switch. I was VERY happy with my new accommodations.
The Holiday Inn is not located near anything and difficult to get to if you do not have a car. For those traveling to see Nimes, the parking costs alone are worth staying closer to the city center.
The Holiday Inn hotel does have secure parking and a renovated bar. Unfortunately, the owner/manager seems to be someone who has little experience in hotels. This place is in need of a bucket of hot water, bleach, and a new coat of paint before any new leather furniture is mixed in with the dust ridden, hair covered, pieces already in the room.
