“Decent hotel in good location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 September 2010

This place was perfectly suitable for what we needed, but was nothing special. We had a great time in Montpellier, and it was an easy walk back from anywhere in the tourist part of the city. It was clean and modern-looking, and the front desk staff was very kind and helpful. The room was a bit small though, and the bed was quite hard (though that's the case in many European hotels). It was under 100 euros per night though, which I felt was a good price for what we got.

I'd definitely recommend visiting Montpellier though. We didn't know what to think going into it but were pleasantly surprised. It was a beautiful city with lots to see and do, and the people were very welcoming. And if you're on a budget, the Mercure Centre is a solid choice.

One thing I definitely recommend trying while you're there is Chateau de Flaugergues. It's a cool little winery just a short bus ride from the city. It was pretty much empty when we were there, and it was something like 5 euros for a tour of the grounds and wine tasting. The manager there was a very kind British guy and he gave us a great personal tasting session, and the wine was excellent!

“Not a great hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 June 2010

I stayed in this hotel for three nights last week. Very impersonal feeling. The hotel feels very old (beginning of 90s style), the carpet in my room was dirty. The place needs a full refurbishment. Breakfast was OK. The good thing is that it's not too far from the city center (5 mins walk) and the beaches (15 mins by cab).

“Mercure Centre is definitively not to be recommended for Business”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 June 2010

This hotel did renew the lobby and the restaurant but the rooms are orrible, very small, no ironing facilities, minibar locked, no closet, table 60x60cm, air conditioning not working, hair dryier catching fire.
When asked to have a clotes iron the receptionist told me to go and get it in the lobby.
In addition no free wireless ....only available in the lobby.
Parking does not even worth a comment .....
Avoid this hotel if you can, just go there if you are forced.

“Rooms need renovation.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 April 2010

I have stayed in this hotel for quite a few times, and although the price for a mercure is not very high, the rooms are not worth a euro more. Stained carpet with holes in. Touched up paintwork in the bathroom. No tea or coffee, no safe, no minibar. The reception area,a nd breakfast room is nice, but the bedrooms really need renovation. You are better off at the Mercue Antigone, which is a nice 5 minute walk from the town centre, or the Suite hotel at about the same distance.
A tip if staying here, is to park the car in the public car park right next door to the expensive hotel car park. You will pay a quarter of the price for overnight parking fo 1 minutes walk!

“Calm spot just outside the centre”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 December 2009

In the taxi from the airport I noticed one our Mercure not too far away from this one. There's also a few ibis hotels scattered around so be clear and specific to taxi drivers.

Facade of the hotels is 1980s modern french and it's located in an area with a load of modern shops almost on top of the city hall. The location is one of the main advantages of this hotel. It's a minute walk to the shops in the galleries lafayette and only a 3 minute walk to the Place de la Comédie which is one of the most important squares in the old town. Despite the closeness to the busy center of the town the immediate surroundings of the hotel are quiet at night.

Under the somewhat dated facade the hotel hides a very modern looking reception area staffed with friendly staff who speak their languages well.

Rooms are small but look recently updated. First impression is "why is this hotel only 3 star" but when you look closely you'll notice things like lamps bolted to the floor, an old fashioned TV (that almost prevents the window from opening) a shower where anyone taller than 5"6' (1.67) would have a hard time washing their hair.

Beds are good and obviously recently replaced. There is a minibar which charges the traditional outrages prices (3,50 for a half liter evian).

Breakfast in a seperate breakfast room on the first floor. Buffet style with eggs, bacon and sausage in addition to a large spread of continental breakfast food. Self service except for the coffee. The hotel seems to have a good baker since everything was top quality and very fresh.

Wifi is available in the rooms but it's not free, in the lobby it seems to be free.

What I disliked about this hotel was that the bar closes whenever the staff thinks it's time and wants to go home, not at midnight as is mentioned in the hotel information. Also a full rate of 130 euros excluding breakfast seems a bit steep for a standard room in this hotel.
Typically french but to me very annoying is rather loud and overly cheerful music in the lobby in mornings.b
