“Threatening staff...great location...tiny room”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 August 2007

We had to make an unscheduled stop in Collioure on our return from Spain, having to cut our vacation short due to family illness at home. The town is lovely, heaving with people but you can see it would be very nice in the shoulder months. The hotel was right on the water, the annex where we stayed up the hill about 1/2 mile.

My wife speaks French and made the arrangements in French over the phone the day earlier. The receptionist who took the call was not very pleasant but we did secure a room in the annex, which is up the hill, a 15 minute walk from the beach, next to a fire station and across from a parking lot. It's a private home divided into 4 small rooms with petit dejeuner included for Euros 95.
Unfortunately, there were no other rooms available anywhere in the town and we were exhausted so we took it, with my 8 year old son and I sleeping on the floor, and my wife and 3 mo. old baby on the bed. We didn't realize this would be such a problem the next morning. The room is very small. Clean, with a balcony overlooking the street. Nothing special but we didn't care at that point we were so tired. We were told we had to pay for two nights even though we were only going to be there one. Given our situation, we accepted this.
The next morning we got up early, skipped breakfast and went to the main hotel on the water to pay the bill. The older woman behind the counter was visibally seething behind the desk when I identified myself and began hurling abuse in French at me that only two persons are to be in the room. I tried to explain in halting French that we had no choice, no rooms were available and there's no reason to be upset as two of us had a very uncomfortable night on the floor with only two in the bed. Then a large older man came bolting out of the door, yelling "this was not Iraq and we can't just do whatever we want!" , something to do with the fact we're English and then stood over me hurling abuse in French. The woman continued to pour scorn over me as well, insulting my lack of French, my baby and wife. I was stunned and felt so threatened I couldn't respond. I paid the bill as quickly as possible (two nights) and drove off.

While the hotel has an enviable position on the water, I would warn travellers to give it wide berth as the owner's (they must have been) anger was so excessive it was shocking for such a minor issue. I'm in the travel operator business and have never seen this behaviour before in all my years. Not sure what their problem was as they got full payment for half the use. I'll go back to Collioure, but not hotel Triton.

“A Room with a View in Colloure”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 June 2007

If you want the view the artists painted, then Hotel Triton has it!! You must, however, request a "sea view room". (slightly more expensive, but worth every Euro). The hotel is just 2 stars, the room is tiny, but has French windows onto an absolute slip of a balcony (we were on the top floor, the lower floors had slightly larger balconies). The bathroom is also tiny, but all is very clean. There is no lift. The view when you pull back the curtains took our breath away! It is the view so many of the artists who lived in Colloiure have painted. The hotel is located less than 10 minute walk to the heart of all the "action", but the walk is charming, and along the beach front. It was, to us, nicer there, than being in "the thick of all the action". The breakfast was simple, sort of "self-serve", but adequate. The best location and very inexpensive.

  • Liked — The view and the location
  • Disliked — Small riooms, but the view compensates for this.

“No complaints.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 March 2007

We (retired couple, early 70's) spent two nights (8 & 9 March 2007) at this hotel.
We had researched Collioure and the local hotels before booking directly with the hotel and reserved a twin room with a sea view and balcony. We had expected the rooms to be small and simple but for a short stay it was fine. The beds were very comfortable with good linen. The Receptionist immediately provided two extra pillows at our request and both room and shower were spotlessly clean.
The shower room is very small and ours only had a hand-held shower which was the only real let-down.
It was exceptionally quiet there at night - except when the Tramantone started to blow up and we do not hold the Management responsible for that! Otherwise the weather was brilliant and to see the Chateau Royal in the early morning sun across the small bay was a delight.
Our research had led us to expect limited parking in this lovely small, former fishing village and the receptionist apologised that it was no longer Free in the winter months. She went on to tell us that the meters were not currently working and nobody seemed to be Policing the public car-park in front of the hotel ...where our car remained throughout our stay. You do not really need a car in Collioure - nowhere within the village is far away.
Breakfast was a typical but generous "petit dejeuner", delicious croissants!
We paid 171.20 Euros (£116.28 on the Credit Card Bill) and thought that £29.07 per person for B&B in such a special location was good value for money. We would stay there again.

  • Liked — Positition, cleanliness, value for money.
  • Disliked — Hand held shower in shower cabinet!

“Loved It!”

This hotel has an enviable position right by one of the beaches of Collioure. We were lucky enough to get a sea facing room as we had booked well in advance. Room was very clean, lots of towels and decor in good condition. Staff freindly if you are to them! Breakfast is a buffet which is very good as can top up tea, juice, cake, croissant if sneak past reception lady!!! Some rooms are small but they advise you before you book. perfect position as away from noisier town side, rooms will be noisy if by a road, but road quieter now new road built to spain. Collioure is a great place- you must have a grand marnier pancake! book early to get best rooms at front. but not when i want to go please!

“Disaster”

Hotel Le tritton has a beautifull view (for those who can afford a room with a view on the charming Collioures harbour).
For the rest, we were extrremely desapointed: the hotel is very noisy. Rooms are really poor. Hostess is frozen.
We left as soon as we could as it was to difficult to have a normal night.
Big deception.
