“Wonderful Stay With Amazing Hosts!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2011

I stayed at the Maison sans Frontière this past October and cannot recommend it highly enough. The room and bathroom were very clean with a very comfortable bed. The breakfast was tasty with the homemade confitures (jams). It is a bit of a walk to the Cité, but it is beautiful along the river with spectacular views of the walled city, so I didn't mind one bit. It is about a 15-20 minute flat walk from the train station, but it is almost completely straight so not too hard to find. Unfortunately, the very heavy rain "dampened" my experience in Carcassonne, and the rail strikes cut it one night short, but Marlène and Michel were very understanding and in fact helped me to make it out on the last train before the strike started- otherwise it would have severely impacted my travels. They even checked into places to stay at my next city in case my hotel could not accommodate me! I cannot say enough nice things about them as people and hosts. I speak French, but they were so warm and welcoming, I find it hard to believe they treat anyone any differently- they welcome people from around the world and respect all people from different cultures and backgrounds. I cannot recommend them highly enough- all places should strive to welcome people as warmly and friendly as them- they really try and obviously enjoy what they do. Without a doubt, I will be recommending them to friends and family who are traveling to Carcassonne.

“Friendly & helpful owners”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2011

We were advised by Expedia that some minor decorating was being done and did we want to book an alternative-we decided to keep booking but Expedia neglected to mention that the B&B had actually relocated.

New address is couple of minutes from SNCF so we actually passed it on way to where we thought we were staying....

Once settled in however I cannot praise Marlene and Michelle enough for the welcome they gave me, my wife and my 6 month old and having access to kitchen was a godsend.

Heartily recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice place to stay in central Carcassonne-may not be as pretty as staying in the medieval Cite but very handy nonetheless.

“Good basic accommodation in an excellent location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2010

We found the location of Maison sans frontières excellent - positioned in a quiet street mid way between the old and new towns, we were able to wander to the Cité in the evenings and also duck over to the supermarket to pick up supplies which Marlene kindly allowed us to store in her fridge. The rooms are clean and basic. Ours was next to the front door and a late night visitor ringing the doorbell at 2am certainly jolted us from our sleep.

This is a good base for visiting Carcassonne - as others have said, it is not a five star hotel, but it is appropriately priced and therefore you can expect good value and to stay comfortably in a handy location. We stayed in the Dakar room and there is no door to the ensuite, just a curtain. This was fine for us (married several years) but I imagine could be embarrassing or uncomfortable for some travellers, eg two friends sharing. We cannot fault the hospitality of Marlene and Michel. We also loved hiring bikes to ride along the canals and would highly recommend it!

“Good value on a Medieval trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2010

Very nice place run by very true persons, you can even get confused by the extremely warm welcome by Marlene and Michel. We loved this place, it's on a perfect location and everything worked fine for us.
A couple of steps from the medieval site but you can pick up a bus if you're too lazy. Very well run and good impression from the first to the last minute!

“A lovely place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2010

We stayed here for four nights in October. Marlene and Michel (and Dolly the dog) were very friendly and welcoming. Michel picked us up from the airport which was wonderful as it was rather wet and windy that day. Our room was clean, comfortable and quiet. We made full use of the garden in the late afternoons to read and rest our weary feet. We felt very much at ease here.

Maison Sans Frontiere is ideally located for the sights of Carcassonne. Breakfast is good and plentiful and we greatly enjoyed speaking with the other guests at the breakfast table.

Three full days is enough to visit Carcassonne if you do not have transport.
