“Sleep like a royalty”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

I have stayed in Demeure St. Louis for one night with my fiancé and his parents during our road trip. We really enjoyed staying here. We picked Demeure St. Louis, as all other places we slept in during the tript according to three criteria - guest parking, proximity to city centre and mid-range prices. We were very satisfied. The B&B is located in the new part of Carcassonne, but just a 20 minute walk from the old city. It has its own garden where we could park the car and also enjoy an evening drink, which was a plus. The rooms itself are amazing, each is individually furnished to make you feel like a king or queen - my future in-laws were staying in the Saint Louis Chamber which had a bed with canopy, rich decorations and bathroom with red bathtub with golden legs. Our room, room Michael Sabatier had a dark brown wood decor with orange touches. The bathrooms are large and comfortable as well as the rooms. There are also lounge areas so apart from garden you can also sit with your family/friends inside. The owner was very nice and he also recommended us a great restaurant and made the reservation for us as we don't speak much French. Overall a very nice place to stay, it was one of the highlights of the trip and we would definitely recomend it to anyone visiting Carcassonne.

“Excellent chambres d'hotes”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

Its true what many people have written here. The quality and spaciousness of the rooms is excellent and is at the level or higher than most genuine 4* European and US hotels we've stayed at. Yet this is an upmarket B&B, with some proper hotel-like features:

* valet service in - by Bernard, the owner, himself
* free airport/station pickup/dropoff - massive value-add though we didnt need it as we were driving through
* very secure parking on site - which we were very glad of
* first class Wi-Fi - a consistent 3Mbps down/ 800Kbps up and good coverage throught our rooms

Bernard is a very amiable and helpful host. Really lovely bloke. Only downsides for us were that our suite (Michel Sabatier) was not as advertised - you have to share its living room with the 2nd bedroom if he books it out, so no privacy. Would have instead booked a one, non-suite bedroom for us, if I'd known in advance. I mentioned this to Bernard as I can see it potentially confusing and disappointing others (shrugged off) - he should fix this and reword his website and advertising appropriately. See our room tips for details. A lot less irksome were the two restaurants he recommended to us in La Cite were closed both days running, bit of a hike on the second night on the trot (opening days were not given on one of them). He could have easily checked they were open before sending everyone up. Had a forgettable meal up there the first night, at one of the few places open, then quickly realised that our best bet was Carcassonne itself. Highly recommend Le Blè de Noir for lunch (Galettes and Crèpes) and Chez Fred for dinner (Cassoulet and Cassole).

Overall a great place, very good value.

Room Tip: We chose the top end Michel Sabatier Suite. Be aware that the attached salon in the suite advertised...

“excelent B & B, he just loved it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 October 2011

Well, we enjoyed a lot this lovely B & B, our host Mr.Mazet was Courteous and helpful all the time.
the house has a beautiful style and its decoration has a lot of details. The impression we had is that everything is well maintained.
the petit trianon room was really cleaned and well sized with a confortable king size bed, small tv, wi fi, and a charming decoration, and as it was located on the ground floor we didn't have problems with the lugages because of course, the house doesn't have a lift. but i think Mr. Mazet would help in case of assistance.
The bathroom was spacious with a nice bath and nice decoration too.
There is a parking in the gardens.
The breakfast is included in the rate and it is served in a nice dining room full of small details in its decoration. Its a tipical french breakfast and everything were delicious, i don't have any complains about it.
the house is about 10 minutes walking to the medieval city and there are some restaurants near it.

“Would go back in an instant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2011

Lovely old mansion, beautifully upgraded. Stay was very comfortable, and hosts very helpful and friendly. Nice walk to La Cite and views from Vieux Pont. It's a bit hard to find (especially without a navigator), but having secure parking is an asset. I wish my stay had been longer.

“A place to look forward to”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2011

Not only does the building both outside and in look beautiful, but the host is so welcoming, that any stay here will be an amazing one. He was very accommodating and really helped us out when it came to our awkward travelling times, making so much effort but make everything as smooth and convenient as possible for us. We stayed in the Garden Room, which is truly beautiful, overlooking the wonderful garden and pond. A mix of modern fixtures and old-style furniture, I would certainly recommend the room - it's quiet and the shower is great. The room was quiet and within easy walking distance of "la cite" and the town. We stayed for 2 nights in Carcassonne and found that there was plenty to fill our time, exploring both parts of the town and the canal. The favourite stay of my holiday!
