We booked in advance and paid for the three days with our card .All done by the internet.Unfortunately for us it snowed , the first day and the motorway /autoroute was snowed under and shut by the police and we could not arrive .We tried to arrive the following day but again the motorway was blocked and we could not make it .
Each time we telephoned to let the owner know what was happening. She even informed us NOT to come as the snow was bad.In the end it was impossible to get to Carcassonne.What got us was it was not our fault yet the owner kept all our payment, the total.As she had our card number she had already taken out the money before we arrived and did not return it even thought it was not of our doing.
All she said was , get your insurance to pay, which of course they will not if its not illness.We understand that a no show must be paid for , but she was sure not to have others looking for a room so she took our money .Bad business sense and bad publicity as it showed what kind of person the owner is . She made about 300 euro profit out of a situation which was very unusual, as it snowed like that the last time.. 40 years ago.
If the owner is like that in a situation which was special she must be even worst in normal time.Money grabbing is the term.BE WARNED....... this is a very bad advert for B&B's

My daughter and I spent 2 night with Madame Johanna in her lovely B&B. We were sure to be there on time as she has a small window of time each day when she expects arrivals. She was most helpful when we arrived with information about the best things to see and do while in town.

The room was adequate and the bathroom great! The view of the courtyard was lovely with the roofs of the city beyond. Breakfast was a bit disappointing with croissants out of a package rather than the local bakery but it was served on very lovely dishware.

The hospitality was adequate but not really warm and when we asked if there was any internet available she sent us down to the new part of the city to a very smelly internet cafe. The views of Carcassonne from the Pont Vieux that you have to cross to get to that part of town were spectacular though so all was not lost.

It was really nice to be staying inside the walls of the old city especially at night when they light the walls and all the tourists are gone for the night. You get the feeling of being a resident in the Middle Ages.

We arrived in Carcassonne with my family pretty shaken up after being robbed the day before in Barcelona. What we found at L'Echappee Belle was a place that made us feel welcome and safe. We had two rooms; one for my teenage daughters and one for my wife and myself. The rooms were simple, but very nice. Each room had a bathroom with a fancy shower with multiple sprayers and heated towel racks (which we didn't use this time of year). We purchased some wine from the owner at an excellent price. We stayed out late walking the city which felt very safe. We woke to a very, very nice breakfast. We checked out and left our bags while we explored the city some more. This is a wonderful place to stay and the owner was very helpful to us.

The sky was a deep blue topaz with golden beams slanting through the ancient street of La Citie, Carcassone, France. The owner, Ms. Lace actually greeted my daughter-in-law and I over the internet with detailed information about Carcassone and wonderful and welcoming information and tips. Our arrival at the train station was greeted by a taxi she sent to pick us up and deliver us to the city gates.

We were greeted and given a map of the city, then shown to our room, which was room number one. The window was open to allow the cool air of early evening into the room. Our view was magnificent. Framed by the window sill sat the Basilica of St. Nazaire. What more could we ask for? Why, a lovely shower with plenty of hot water and six jets that can be angled as desired, and an extremely comfortable bed - which was part of our room. The first night, the moon, full and fat glowed down on the Basilica. It was as though everything conspired to ensure my visit to Carcassonne would be memorable.

Breakfast included a croissant, baguette slices, orange juice, cereal and milk, and coffee or tea. (butter, jellies, and condiments for the bread beverages and were part of the room rate.

This was an entirely pleasant experience which I plan to repeat.
