“Not bad at all”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

The hotel is not really situated in the most beautiful part of town, but it can be found easily and there are banks, super markets and other stores closeby. It's also quite close to the main attraction - the Cité (5 mins by car, around 20 by foot). The staff was friendly, competent and multilingual. Absolutely no complaints there. My room wasn't overly big, but clean and comfortable. Air condition worked fine as well. Wi-Fi access is free, but limited to 200 MB per day (sheet with codes will be handed out at the reception desk). All in all a good place to stay for a day or three.

“Friendly France”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2011

My friend and I stayed at the Ibis Berriac. I thought I had booked the one in the new city, but this one was on the outskirts. However, we were close to supermarkets, bus stops and not that far from the mediaval city which was the purpose of our trip.
The hotel was small enough for us to meet and mix with others staying there. Staff were all friendly, service was good and the reception staff spoke some English. If we required anything, it was got for us instantly. We could sit out in the evening at the front of the hotel which we couldn't have done in the other Ibis. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to others or staying there again myself.

“Adequate base for Newmarket Tour”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2011

We have just returned from a Newmarket Tour of the Carcassonne area of Southern France and although the hotel was adequate it was quite a distance from La cite. (incidentally the tour was fantastic if anybody is thinking of going on one) We didn't look up the reports on the Ibis until about a week before departure and were horrified to read the comments, so we went expecting a 'poor do' but to be honest it turned out better than our expectations. The rooms are very small, only about twelve inches between bedside and wall on one side so someone has to inch their way along. But we spent very little time in the room so it was perfectly adequate and I suspect Newmarket would have to charge quite a bit more for their tour if they were to book a 'better' hotel. It was very clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. It is a twenty five minute walk to La Cite and you do have to walk along a busy main road for part of the way, the other part is nice and you can get a real feel for the area. Whoever said in their report that it was a fifteen minute walk must power walk!! we walked at a steady rate - not fast or slow and it always took us twenty five minutes. You can get a bus but not on sundays, and taxi's are expensive. The Hotel is situated in a sort of industrial estate but there are other hotels and supermarkets - it's ok for the money you pay. There are no views from any of the rooms but on the positive side it isn't noisy. The bed was large and very comfortable. The food at the Ibis was ok but no variation much, just one main meal which was always meat. I made one mistake in asking for a meal off the card they had (I dont eat meat) and it turned out to be a re-heated Tesco style ready meal microwaved from frozen and looked so unappetizing I sent it back and did without - I resent paying 14euros for a ready meal that was tiny and still in its plastic wrapping! The starter was a buffet of salad things (quite nice) and the desserts were different frangipans (very nice) but the same every evening. The hotel just over the way was very good with a big and varied menu. There is also a Tapas Bar just on the main road which is a short walk.
Overall the Ibis was adequate and anyone going on a Newmarket Tour needs to think of it as just a place to sleep, it didn't detract from the tour one bit unless you let it! but anyone who cant walk very far will need to think twice or calculate for taxis.

“Not up to standard...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 August 2011

First of all, this hotel is out on a industrial estate, and it is really not practical to walk to the ´Cite´ from here. I tried it once, and took my life in my own hands on an unlit, unpathed road. You can get a taxi for a reasonable price, and rarely for France, you can order one until late. Don´t walk to the Cite at night, despite what the description tells you.

The room was pokey, as others have described.....and you have to keep getting WI-FI codes, which last about 5 mins because of the limited bandwith.

Don´t understand why they stop breakfast at 10:00 on a sunday.....the only hotel I´ve known that stops it so early. I missed it by 5 mins, and was given the choice of a croissant, a crossant, or a croissant!!! No "don´t worry sir, I´ll fix you a plate from the mounds of food in the kitchen fridge"

The main thing about this soulless hotel, is the grumpy, miserable staff. I don´t know if it was some old French hatred towards the English, but they really were terrible, bar one middle aged lady with glasses who gave me a bottle of wine, after I said the experience was less than perfect.

The cleaner didn´t seem to grasp the concept of a ´Do not disturb´ sign on the door either.
