Before I made the reservation, I wrote an e-mail to both Hotel de la Cite and Best Western Hotel le Donjon. Compared the cost and the attitude they showed in the replied e-mail, I booked Best Western Hotel le Donjon, and I found it's an excellent decision! The staff in front desk is absolutely thoughtful and friendly! She even arranged a car to pick us up in the train station because she knew we came far away from Asia, but we missed the limousine and took a taxi by ourselves, though. We were three adults, the triple room is big enough to open three 29' luggages and still has plenty space to walk through. The room is cozy and clean, the bed and pillow are comfortable, the bathroom is wild and clean as well. Anyway, we stayed two nights here and I love everything in this hotel! Especially the service! If I have chance to visit Carcassonne again, I will definitely book here again! Highly recommend for the people who wants to stay few nights in Carcassonne!

We stayed in one of the rooms in the outdoor courtyard. It was a very cute design, a sitting room on the lower level, and then up a few steps to the bed and bathroom. The couch was nice and big and easily fit two of us for sleeping. The courtyard in the hotel was beautiful and if I'd had more time in Carcassonne it would have been an excellent place to relax. As it was we only had one day so we were up early and touring the city first thing in the morning. If you just want to do the highlights you can do it all in a day but I'd suggest staying a bit longer and getting to explore things in more detail if you can. When we left the cab picked us up at the hotel front door but when we arrived we were dropped off at the city gates. If you are getting into town late be prepared for a bit of a walk, it's not too far but rolling suitcases don't get along well with cobbles so it's not the easiest journey.
This hotel is excellent in terms of location - right in the centre with easy access to shops and restaurants, and just around the corner from the castle.

I liked everything about this hotel except my room. I even liked the entrance to my room, which was in a kind of bungalow at the end of a grassy walk that had a burbling fountain. But the room was very motel-like and had no charm at all. The shower did not have a threshold, and the shampoo and soap were on wall dispensers. The hotel is divided into several sections and I believe I was in the worst of the bunch, due to it being the last available room. But, I did not snoop around any other rooms, so I am not positive they are less motel-like, but I presume they are from a conversation I had with reception. The hotel itself seemed old and full of character, and its location is spectacular, and I would definitlely stay here again, but in a different room-type.

We were a couple staying here over New Year and it was a fantastic stay. We stayed in room 4 in the main building, very clean and comfortable. The service was 5*, very friendly and accommodating. On 31DEC evening, all the guest were invited to some champagne and "nibbles" which we though was a very nice gesture, very generous. Overall, a fantastic stay, we would recommend this place to anybody looking for an unforgettable moment in the old city of Carcassonne.
