This was the best hotel we stayed in during our trip. Reception was wonderful and a lady (Shelia) happily showed us to our room while taking time to show us through the hotel and telling us about its history. Our room was on the second floor overlooking the gardens and one of the huge watch-towers and if you ventured out onto the small balcony, we could see the castle ramparts.
Our room couldn't have been better; we had a superb king-size bed, a beautiful French bath and the facilities to make a cup of tea to refresh us when we needed it!
The restaurant is a Michelin starred restaurant and, while we were there, the menu was being created around truffles. (Dinner in the restaurant was a lot out of our league so we ate just down the road at Donjon, which was really good for a fraction of the price). Breakfast was out of our league too at 28 euros a head and we wandered down into the Bastide, below the castle.
Apart from the cost of eating, in terms of overall ambiance and helpfulness, this is how all hotels should be!
