“Pleasant stay, value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2011

This month we spent 2 days at the Royal Hotel in Aigues-Mortes. When we checked in, the staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms are not that big but the size is reasonable for a hotel of this category. Our room had a terrace from which we could see the hotel's pool. The pool itself is clean and great for a quick swim in the morning or after returning from sightseeing. It is cleaned by the staff every morning before it is opened for the guests.
The area in which the hotel is located is nothing special as it is an industrial area. Those who choose not to have breakfast at the hotel can go to the supermarket which is right across the street.
The hotel is a bit far away from the historic center of Aigues-Mortes but it can be reached by foot in about 20 minutes. By car you arrive quicker and parking is easy to find near the city walls.

“OK but a rather dull location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 September 2011

I returned to this hotel after 20 years and the surroundings have dramatically changed, it's now surrounded by a commercial park. the set up is that each room is a small 'villa' therefore you have an outside table by your 'front door'. The hotel has a new management that have done extensive work and are very professional and very friendly.
The room was clean and simple (expected from a 2*), the breakfast offered variety and there was plenty of it.
There is a small swimming pool that comes in handy to cool down during the summer.
The location lets it down (or stops it from getting more * I guess), you'll need to drive to Aigues-mortes & the beach. Cost-wise it'll probably struggle vs hotel chains for a family of 4 like us (E115 vs Novotel E75) but it does give a personal service

“"What's the catch?"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 June 2011

We found the hotel so very nice, we wondered what the catch was! In fact, there wasn't really one, except possibly that it is a good 15 minutes' walk from the town, and it was not obvious that you could get through to the banks of the canal via the Super U! But the hotel itself was lovely - the rooms ample, huge bathrooms and a little terrace where you could sit and eat a picnic meal. The rooms were refurbished last year, and it shows! There is a swimming-pool, too, and free Internet access.

We really liked it, and enjoyed our two nights there.

“Average hotel, too far from town”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 July 2009

Don't miss Aigues Mortes, it's lovely. This hotel, however, is about as far as you can possibly be from Aigues Mortes and still call it Aigues Mortes. That said it's only 15-20 minutes walk from the walled town, though 5 minutes of that is on dusty road with no pavement.
The room was quite spacious - motel style and adequately clean. It's main advantage was having a proper bathtub. French doors opened on to a small pool (yes it did have water in it) and a restaurant behind. Otherwise no facilities around except petrol stations.

“Not a bad location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2008

Booked this hotel with venere.. We kind of knew what to expect from the reviews. The receptionist was very helpful and kind. The room was a triple and was a decent size. It had air-con that half worked, wouldn’t have liked to be there in the hot summer months! The swimming pool did have water in but was quite dirty and the surrounding gardens didn’t help too much. A sweep of a brush now and then would help! It’s just off the main roundabout off the duel carriageway so very handy. The biggest surprise in the room was a kitchenette complete with fridge! So went over to Super U and got some champagne.. Why dont they make a deal of this fridge? We didn’t have breakfast there. For £50 a night we found it good value and would stay again.

  • Liked — Fresh soft towels and a Fridge!
  • Disliked — NA
