This was our second stay at Les Arcades and we were happy to return. It's fast becoming our place in the Camargue and after a less than thrilling experience the previous night it was great to reach Les Arcades.
The hotel is in a lovely position inside the walled town of Aigues Mortes. It is very close to the main square and the surrounding shops and restaurants. There is no parking at the hotel but they will give you a pass to park in the public car parks outside the walls for free.
The building is old and charming. It's age does lend it a certain quirkiness when it comes to the layout of the corridors to the rooms and there is no lift or obvious Reception area. However, once staff are located, the rooms you are led to are large, clean and reasonably well equipped with flat screen TV and air conditioning. The day staff speak little English but are willing and do appreciate you trying to speak French, however limited that may be!
The hotel also has a sun terrace on the first floor with a small secluded splash pool which is unexpected but pleasant.
Breakfast is included if you are happy with bread and croissants, extra charges for cooked items.
The restaurant is very good and a favourite with locals as well as guests. The menus deliver good choices and not too outrageous prices. The Foie Gras with Ginger and the Lobster Ravioli stand out as particularly memorable. My husband dreams about the cheese trolley. Be warned though, the desserts are enormous!
The restaurants staff's English is also much better than my French.
I wouldn't recommend Les Arcades for families as it's compact and quirky but for couples looking for an authentic experience this could well fit the bill.
