“Extremely Dirty and Rude Staff”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

My friends and I booked Hotel Bertha for 3 nights in February. It was completely filthy and we had to leave after the first night. The blanket on my bed had toothpaste all over it. When I opened the sheets, they had holes and were covered in hairs, pubic hairs and specks of dirt. There was also a bug crawling all over my bed. My friend's sheets were the same. We asked at the desk for clean sheets. He was rude and he only gave us two sheets between us. He took the sheets out of what we presumed was a laundry bag. However, when we opened them up in our room, they were also covered in hairs, pubic hairs, and dirt! The floors also looked like they hadn't been swept in a while, as did the hallways. I have stayed in lots of hostels before so I didn't expect anything more than a basic room but never have I seen a room so disgusting and dirty. We have pictures if you can stomach to look at them!

“Uninvited guests: bedbugs”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 June 2011

My girlfriend and I booked through priceline.com which advertised this hostel as a 3-star hotel. There was no soap, shampoo, or amenities that are associated with a 3-star hotel. We were basically overpaying for a hostel. It would've been overlooked since we hardly were at the hotel. But on the last night we found the reason why we were having rashes. This hostel had a bedbug infestation. Since it was 2am and we had to catch a taxi at 6:30am we decided not to make a complaint after we got back. We quarantined our luggage and I emailed priceline and Hotel Bertha informing them of the situation.

“good location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 May 2011

Well within the simple expectations we set for ourselves since the hotel had one of the cheapest rates available in a good location. The room and bathroom was relatively clean. We liked that we were on the top floor; even with the windows opening to the main street (Bld Des Batignolles) it didn't get too noisy. Our very distant views included Sacre Coeur and the tip of the Tour Eiffel). Be ready to walk up the narrow staircase with your luggage (we were on the 5th floor and had to carry tons of stuff up) as there is no elevator.

Good wifi connection available in all rooms.

Had no issues with the small bathroom/toilet, although the toilet seat kept coming apart. We hardly stayed in the room anyway, so we weren't really bothered by all other details.

Friendly and helpful staff. We didn't get the breakfast that the hotel offered and instead chose to buy really yummy croissants and quiche from a nearby boulangerie. Groceries, wine shops and cafes are nearby. The location was ideal since it was easy to catch the bus and Metro to everywhere. Convenient for walking around as well (very near Montmartre). Just opposite the direction of Place Clichy is Champs Elysees.

Consider this hotel if you're staying for a week or more. Otherwise, for a shorter visit, spend a bit more and get a 3-star hotel, which is what we would have done.

“Close to Montmartre”

If you visit Paris, and you have a limited budget, the Hotel Bertha is a good choise. The rooms are small, not very safety, because every day our room was visited by someone( there was nothing missing, but we haden't anything valuable). The hotel is close to metr station, Place de Clichy, Moulin Rouge, Pigalle and the celebre Montmartre area. The owner very polite, helpful and friendly.

“Worth the price”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2009

This hotel is best for those, who are usually staying in hostels or traveling on budget. It is very close to metro, between station Rome (line 2) and station Place de Clichy (line 13) and to Moulin Rouge. The Supermarche (the grocery) is just over the street and the bakery at the corner. Don´t expect 100% service and be flexible and it will be OK. We had a reservation for the room with toilet and shower, but when we arrived, the room was not available, although we had an email and telephone reservation confirmed by credit card. Their web page is not really reliable (the Availabilities page is not actual - showing green rooms, but it was booked already). The other room was not clean yet at 3PM,the man had to wait an hour. The older woman at the reception with a little english offered a room with shower and no toilet for 50 Euro to us, which we took. There is no lift and stairs are very sharp. Our room on the 3rd floor (5 total) was one of the biggest-1xdouble bed a 1xsingle,small wardrobe, table,TV.The bathroom with no door in niche - sink and shower with curtain. Two french windows to the side street, which was very nice.Equipment is quite old.Bring your own towels, the ones from hotel are in size of hand towels.Hair dryer to borrow at the reception. There is no blanket, you sleep under sheet and cover for the bed. There was a daily cleaning service, but only emptied the trash. There was still standing the water in a bathroom floor. The toilet is just besides the room, same for M/F, not very welcoming:-) and usually without toilet paper(but you get one for the room and you can always ask the staff). There is a older man over night at the reception. We stayed with a baby...you can leave a pram downstairs at the staff room. The wifi works at the place with tables and chairs besides the front desk. The hotel is pretty calm. Generelly i think it is worth the price, very suitable for short-term stay (we stayed 4 nights). It has an everything, just not a very up to date standard. But Paris offers so much, that you will spend all day out anyway.
