“Pleasant surprise. Staff very attentive. Cost-effective.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2010

I was pleasantly surprised with the hotel. Simple but well located hotel, near the Jardin du Luxembourg, at the end of the boulevard Saint Michel at boulevard Port Royal. Right in front of the legendary restaurant La Croserie des Lilas, on the other side of the avenue. Staff very attentive. I was at the hotel for a long season, between October 20 and November 28, 2010. Far above the 2 star hotels in Paris.

“Great location, cheap, but definitely no frills”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 May 2010

We stayed here in late May and the two biggest problems we had with the hotel were:

1) The lumpy pillows - seemed like just chunks of foam stuffed in a pillowcase; and

2) Struggling to decide whether to try to sleep in a warm room or a noisy room - there was no AC and our room faced west so it got very hot in the afternoon, however, the intersection the hotel is near is very busy, so if we kept the window open to get some cool air in the room, we were awakened by the sounds of motorcycles and ambulances racing by at all hours.

The two biggest advantages this hotel had were:

1) Location - right above an RER station on the B line, so very easy access to both of Paris' airports, also right up the street from the Luxemberg Gardens, which were lovely, and within walking distance to many of Paris' attractions, such as the Pantheon, Notre Dame and the Latin Quarter.

2) Price - $100 euros a night, a great price for the location.

The room was clean and staff were friendly, which were also positives. I would recommend this hotel if you are traveling on a budget or looking for a cheap place in a central location, but I would definitely avoid it in the summer months.

“Good 2 star hotel by Luxembourg Gardens”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 June 2009

In room 540 on the top floor with a balcony. Rate it good as a 2 star. New bathroom. Comfortable bed. Lift. Good bakery and bistros around the corner. Opposite metro and train station. Direct link to Gare de Nord by bus (15 minutes). Friendly staff.

“Next to RER train station Port Royal. Great for exploring Paris”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2008

We booked this hotel as part of my 50th birthday present of a weekend in Paris. I've travelled worldwide yet unbelievably never been to Paris.
I've always heard a cross selection of peopl'e's views on Paris. Always sounded a love or hate place.
Arrival at Orly airport went very smoothly. Easy to take train from airport to main RER trains at Anthony station. From Anthony we went directly to Port Royal station. Hotel is just outside the station to the right. It looked very nice from the outside. Newly painted and smart. Inside was fine, small but ok. Both receptionists that worked over the long weekend we were there, were extremely polite and kind.
I had read many reviews on hotels in Paris, and the main comment was 'room small', so I was not at all suprised that our bedroom was also small.
Bed was short, I am 170, about 5ft 7, and my feet were right on the edge, so anyone taller than me, be prepared to have your legs dangling over the edge. Room was so, so....pretty basic, but we didnt expect more. Room was very hot, and we couldn't adjust the central heating, so we had the window open. The hotel faces out to main busy roads with a lot of traffic day and night.
Bathroom also small, but bright and clean. Shower had a curtain that clung to you when the water was spraying, but to be fair there was plenty of hot water.
Worst thing about the hotel was the 1st night when we arrived and finally went to bed, it was rather windy outside. Outside each window of the hotel they have an exterior blind that drapes the top part of the windows. At the bottom of the blind is a heavy weighted rod. We were kept awake most of the night by the banging of these blinds/rods that the wind made blowing them.
Other 2 nights the wind dropped, thank goodness.

We didnt take breakfast at the hotel, but chose to eat out at different places.

All in all, a nice little hotel, super location and on top of the excellent train system.

As for Paris, I loved it. Lots to see and do, fantastic restaurants, cafes, shops. The Parisians we encountered were all polite, helpful, service-minded and welcoming.
We will definitely return!
