Well, our first Paris trip is over and we have returned to the drudgery of working life. So, the hotel.
Getting There - We travelled by RER from CDG Airport to St Lazare station and the hotel is very short walk from the station, leave the station using the Du Havre exit. The first RER train (we had to change once) was packed so sit near the doors otherwise it's a battle to get off. Changing trains was a simple process even with loads of luggage, would not recommend this for infirm passengers as the escalators were out of order.
Arriving at the Hotel - We could check in but were very early and the room was still being cleaned, we left our luggage in a room in reception. The staff were very helpful and friendly and spoke English perfectly after our stumbling attempt at French (which seemed welcomed). They gave us maps etc to help us on our way and thus we went on our first exploration.
The Room - We were in a one bedroom suite, that had a sleeper couch in the lounge area, it is spread accross two floors with a tight staircase to the main bedroom and bathroom. There were two toilets, a kitchenette with fridge, microwave etc, a nice flat screen TV with 2 English channels that were of no use really but this is not a priority in Paris. The room had a pretty decent view over the street as well. Travelling is a major part of my work so I get to see too many hotels and I would say I was impressed by this hotel room, it had everything we needed and more. Good strong shower, no noise from outside and very clean. We had to ask for extra pillows, there was only one each, a few minutes after calling reception, there was aknock on the door and ample pillows arrived with a smile and a question of was there anything else we needed. The rooms were "spruced up" daily but not given a major clean, we did not see this as an issue at all. The cleaning staff were also very friendly. One negative, the sleeper couch mattress was like a stiff board to sleep on, apologies to my daughter who drew the short straw here.
A special note on the room and a real problem on our last night (when we had to be up at 4.00am) the staircase in the room is quite noisy and as such one needs to consider the neighbouring room. After midnight, our neighbours thought it would be fun to run up and down the stairs screaming and laughing, it was quite loud. I eventually did the banging on their door in my sleepware. We also called reception who also visited them and got them sorted out.
Location - For us, just perfect. Metro real close, RER real close, Great Shopping real close, Supermarket with great wine selection and Hoegaarden real close. We never felt threatened in any way, there are a few rough sleepers around late on and this may put people off but the hotel is a few steps from a main street so no issue at all. What it is like at 2am for late night revellers I do not know. There are lots of food options around but we tended to eat prior to returning to the area from our different excursions in the city. For breakfast the hotel is quite expensive, we popped out and got croissant and various other French delights and ate breakfast in the room, a much better and inexpensive way of doing things, soooo French.
Departure - This needed to be slick due to a very early flight, we booked a taxi through reception (the day before) and he arrived on time with check out being exactly as required.
In Summary - This hotel was very reasonably priced, very well located, with nice rooms and friendly staff, it is extremely likely that we will stay here again. My first experience of Paris was an excellent one and that is in no small part thanks to this hotel.
