“What you'd expect”

For a Parisian budget hotel, this place was fine. Except that they tried to rip us off. I reserved a 40€/night room by phone, and emailed them to confirm. Of course, when we arrived, they explained they only had a 50€/night room available to my boyfriend, who doesn't speak French. Luckily, after about 15 minutes of arguing with them (in French) I managed to get the price back down to 40€.

So, be careful about booking! They definitely tried to rip us off!

But otherwise, it's fine. The location is decent, Notre Dame, etc. is walkable (about 20 minutes) and it's close to the cool Marais neighborhood. Kind of loud at night. Our room was big, and while the carpet/walls were rather dirty, the bed itself was clean.

It was no better/worse than any other budget hotel I've stayed in in Paris, but it's a good deal. 40€/night here for a double is a good deal!

“Perfectly fine if you just want somewhere to sleep in a good location.”

We stayed in a double room with bathroom for 60 euro per night. The room was a decent size with a balcony. The bathroom was shabby but clean. There was quite a lot of street noise, plus noise from people on the stairs. Basically, it's fine for a short stay if you don't expect much or plan to spend much time in your room, and the location is great.

“Great budget hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 October 2008

We spent 5 nights at the Baudin Hotel, and had a great time. While I'll admit it was not the cleanest, the carpet was old, and the room was musty, the place certainly has character. Room #9 is the one we recommend: private bathroom (bring a plug for the bath, as this was not provided, or cut the end off of a water bottle with the cap on and turn it upside down - worked great!) 20 foot terrace overlooking busy, happening street - we loved it! We slept with the terrace doors open one night and fell asleep to the sound of glasses clinking on the outdoor cafe tables below us. There is also a great patisserie just below , and the subway was a 2 minute walk away. We found the staff quite friendly, and the old man seemed to go out of his way to accomodate us. I would recommend you ask to see the room before booking though, as what really made it for us was the terrace - not sure if we'd have enjoyed it as much without.

“Very Honest Staff. Made my day/stay!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 July 2007

I can speak very highly of the honesty of this establishment as I Ieft my Ipod under the mattress of the smaller bed in our room, as a probably futile gesture to frustrate any would be robber. After checking out and moving to another Hotel in a side street closer to the Gare de Lyon I did not notice my 60 gig Ipod was missing until final packing for our flight home to NZ two days later.
Assuming that it had gone forever and not totally convinced anyhow that I had put it under the mattress with some travel documents (which I had retrieved ) we decided that we should at least detour to and check with the hotel before writing it off .to approaching senility. We are closer to 70 than 60

Explaining this in my very inadequate French to the female concierge was a bit of a battle, as the room was occupied and she was negative about us looking in it. However she phoned her cleaning man and voila I heard the words ,il le trouve, and sure enough down the stairs came a Dickensian character with a big smile and my Ipod.!! This totally made my day and increased our already good feelings about the French of today.
We have visted Paris and other parts often and have not had one bad experience with Pariseans in fact some have more than gone out of their way to be helpful , polite and tolerant of my butchering of their language.. Smile and you shall be smiled on!
So full marks for honesty to what appears to be a familly venture.
While agreeing with some of the comments in the other reviews re inadequate locks and uneven floors and strange plumbing , wiring etc travellers should realise that these are features of most older hotels around France and you mostly get what you pay for. This hotel was clean, the spiral staircase only slightly less difficult than Everest, but the concierge did struggle up it with my wifes overweight and oversized luggage, (nothing new there!)
Being on a corner and a Saturday night the noise level was very high so stay up late, drink a lot, and do not visit in a heatwave so you can keep the windows shut!
Do not expect too much of under 70 Euro Paris hotels. If you are honey=mooning spend a bit more at least for the first night! Carry at least one spae hand towell!
Book for only 1 night so you can look at alternatives the next day.
Try and find somewhere in a side street. There are hundreds of them. Would I stay here again, probably not, but then variety is the spice and this hotel adequately filled our need for a bed at short notice.
Top marks for their honesty.

“Avoid like the plague”

Arriving late on Good Friday and with no accommodation booked,we wandered up the Rue De Charonne and came across this Hotel(I use the term in it's loosest sense!).We made the big mistake of booking in without seeing the room and other facilities, but as it was Easter and the whole city was full of people sitting on bags in the streets with nowhere to go, we felt we had no other choice!
What can I say,€92 for two nights, shared shower room with no hot water,(unless you get up very early!), oh,and only one hand towel for two people, not to mention €2 each time you ask for the key for the shower room!!!!!!
If you have ever read Orwell's down and out in Paris and London and fancy emulating his time in Paris then book in here for a while!!!
Peeling paint, unhelpful staff stained carpets and uneven floors, the building should either be completely renovated or demolished,it is shocking!!
At least the sheets on the bed seemed to be clean.
Never again!!!
