“OK if on a tight budget”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2011

Stayed here for one night in May 2009, solo traveler on his way home from several weeks of touring Turkey and Balkans. Price for Paris, about 65 euro, is hard to beat. A very small room, pretty dark. I remember while climbing the narrow stairway thinkig that if there was a fire I would be in deep trouble.
Located in what felt like more of an alley than a real street. OK location. If you can afford better I would stay elsewhere.

“Good location, wouldn't call it two star...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 March 2010

Service: No complaints, staff were friendly enough. Wouldn't hurt to be a tad more accommodating to English speakers seeing as they run a hotel and all.

Room: No way were they two star rooms. looked like a renovation in progress in some parts. No control for the heating, woke up sweating the first night, slept with the window open from then on (which didnt help with the noise). Upon flushing the toilet the room would be filled with the smell of sewerage.

Beds were uncomfortable and the pillow had the faint smell of cigarettes. Whilst fluffing my pillow (which was like a loose bag of feathers) I had a small bug fall from it and crawl off my bed (gross)

Bathroom was dirtier than I'd keep my own (let alone a hotel bathroom) and the shower was ill designed and broken.

The location is fantastic. Right around the corner from Gare Du Lyon. nearby restaurants were reasonably priced and it was a short walk to the river, metro and Bastille. Free fast wifi was also a plus.

Dont bother with breakfast. Options and quantity is limited. Was expecting better coffee for a parisian hotel. Better off going to a local patisserie and buying a croissant there!

“Not the cleanest place, but does the job.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 September 2009

The hotel is close to the Gare de Lyon, probably 10min or less walk from the station down a smaller alley/street off of Rue de Bercy. There are small restaurants and cafes in the area and there's also a bike rental station (credit card only I think) if you want to bike around Paris.

The hotel is small and worn out, but works for a place to sleep. My friend and I stayed in room 15 which had a double bed and attached bathroom. The room came with a small flat screen tv and free wireless internet, but the tv didn't get very good signal and the wireless signal wasn't great and cut out every once in a while.

The bedspread on the bed looked suspiciously stained, so we ended up throwing it into a corner and the sheets were clean underneath. The bathroom was tiny, with barely enough room to stand in front of the sink when the door was closed, so if you're not on the smaller side, then you might have an issue. The lighting in the bathroom wasn't great either. It was kind of dark (especially in the shower) and the shower curtain had some mold growing on it (I think it just needed a trip through the washer). The toilet also took a lot of time to refill with water after flushing and couldn't be flushed again for probably 10min. However, the toilet and sink looked like they were pretty new.

There was also a vent in the bathroom that seemed to let in cigarette smoke from somewhere, so that was a little surprising in a non-smoking room. Maybe the other end of the vent was by someone's smoking spot?

The room didn't have a safe, and you have to give your key to the front desk when you go out, so I locked my valuables away in my luggage and didn't run into any problems.

Also, people come and go pretty late into the night so opening and closing of doors and other noise could disturb you if you're a light sleeper.

Overall, it's a conveniently located budget accommodation, but don't expect too much. Good if you're just looking for a place to sleep.

“2-star, free WiFi and convenient location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 April 2008

I was traveling alone on business, on my dime. Needed Internet, a decent bed, a desk, and a decent price (60 euro per night!). This hotel was 2 blocks from Gare de Lyon and just over the river from Gare Austlitz - perfect location.

Room was small as was the desk. The bathroom was very small - fine for me but would never do for my wife - too small with no counter space. Hair dryer in room. Iron at front desk.

Quiet block and rooms. I slept well.

I will probably stay again. Ask for a lower room to get better WiFi signal strength and to minimize the climb up the narrow circular staircase.

I did not try the breakfast.

  • Liked — great value, good bed, free WiFi, convenient to Metro
  • Disliked — Small (but I knew that). No telephone (I use Skype so this was OK, too)

“Budget, clean, helpful and nice”

The hotel is superb for travellors on a budget, the rooms as you would expect are tiny en-suite is the smallest I have ever seen, but the room is very clean, the staff are incredibly helpful and the location 2 mins from Gare de Lyon is ideal for seeing the sights. I can't praise the staff highly enough we arrived at the hotel at 8am (having travelled over-night) and although our room wasn't ready they gave us keys to an unmade room to allow us get changed and freshen up. When I asked about check out time they were very relaxed a typical French shrug of the shoulders saying oh about 11.30 ish would be fine. The hotel is tiny and not the Ritz but very clean in a great neighbourhood, in which we felt very safe.

  • Liked — The staff were excellent and the location superb.
  • Disliked — The stairs!!!!!!!!
